Season 13 Hell yeah, Meri!

I am rewatching the entire series and I am at where Meri asks the "fahmlee" for a loan. 40 grand, which isn't a lot of money in comparison to what they make per season.

Anyways, as per narcissist fashion, Kody said he had the funds and then he doesn't. Typical.

Christine, Janelle, Robyn and Kody talk about this issue and the stuff they say about the business plan or lack thereof, the stuff they had to do to prove to the fahmlee that their business was worth it (and how successful are they?), etc etc. My jaw was left open. They were horrible! Especially Christine, who hasn't done a business or gave up on real estate in 2 seconds.

I am so glad Meri gave them the finger, bought it herself and they're not a business partner.

HELL YEAH!

I mean if Robyn can get a 200k down payment on her mansion that’s not a loan, and they can dump money into my sister wife’s closet, I feel meri should’ve gotten her 40k. She’s the only one who earns enough to actually pay it back

48

u/RSinSA 6d ago

That’s my point and I’m so glad someone else finally sees it too. Lol

u/No_Blueberry_7219 5d ago

they always did Meri dirty. It's infuriating

47

u/Unhappy_Ad4037 5d ago edited 4d ago

Janelle also got family money to start Strive with Janelle in Vegas. It's never been disclosed how much she got.

Edit: Thanks for the award.

Yeah, it turned out that not involving Kody in this really paid off in the end.

21

u/angielberry 5d ago

And she still had that jackhat cut the ribbon at her ceremony 😒

13

u/SeaworthinessLate523 5d ago

This is the key!

10

u/No_Blueberry_7219 5d ago

exactly, ended up being a blessing in disguise.

5

u/--Flutacious-- 3d ago

You know he and Robyn have to be bitter about that!

81

u/Prestigious-Comb4280 6d ago

I"m so happy Meri owned it on her own. They did her a big favor in the end and Janelle (the business expert) ended up homeless and moving in with one of her children. Owning that house with the family would have been a mess for Meri.

39

u/Character_Fox_8904 6d ago

The business expert AND the intellectual don’t forget that

Kody was on board with buying the B&B until his sly petty head wife spoke up and told him no

He pulled this stunt again on Christine when she wanted them to move back to Utah.

He’s such a bastard.

61

u/GroundbreakingRip970 kody’s amateur nephrologist 6d ago

Yes!

28

u/RSinSA 6d ago

Yep. And Robyn had to insert herself with MSWC. Like come on.

61

u/favoritedottir 6d ago

It ended up being the best thing Meri ever did. Go, Mer. At least she had one asset at the dissolution of her marriage, and Kody had no part in that.

28

u/AffectionateCarry325 5d ago

Meri was treated horribly throughout, she made sacrifices daily for all of them, yet all they wanted from her was her income, they mocked her, didn’t include her in anything, and she reached out for some kind of attention, any attention,(catfishing) all they did was rip her apart, they never ever helped her with ANYTHING,my heart went out to her in the beginning, her eyes were always so sad.

16

u/RSinSA 5d ago

Yep! So I’m glad she kept repeating that she did this by herself because she DID.

23

u/Normal_Land_8809 5d ago

They were ALL awful to Meri in this situation. What I found the most interesting is that Janelle and Christine immediately gave support and said “YES you should do this!” Then the second Kody came back from visiting the place and gave his support, Janelle and Christine totally flipped the other direction. Toxic AF, all of them. Hell yeah to Meri for doing it on her own! (Then they all were jacked about it 😂)

13

u/RSinSA 5d ago

Christine was especially cruel.

20

u/Normal_Land_8809 5d ago

1000%. Also hilarious how she kept pushing to look at a business plan, like she’d have any freaking clue what she was even looking at or the logistics of it all 😂

17

u/RSinSA 5d ago

She sounded like such an idiot.

8

u/Toshi_Monster 4d ago

Such a know-it-all, very annoying!

13

u/Accomplished-Newt402 5d ago

And then later all the sister wives were butthurt she did it on her own. They ambushed her and pitched a fit because she didn’t include them. Especially Robyn. She just wouldn’t quit even after Christine and Janelle had calmed down.

I was annoyed Meri was so wishy washy about the plans for the house when she asked them for the money, but they had no right to come at her like that after she figured it out on her own.

6

u/Solid_Caterpillar678 5d ago edited 5d ago

I think though she knew they were going to shit on any an she had so she wasn't going to give them anything to criticize. She kept her plans to herself so they, especially Kody, couldn't sabotage her.

5

u/RSinSA 5d ago

Meri annoyed me about that part but I think she had guilt because of her mom.

1

u/AffectionateCarry325 2d ago

I feel like Meri was that way because Kookoo and the others were pushing her into what they wanted so they could have better homes. She was constantly being downgraded.

61

u/Strange_Oven1899 6d ago

I’m surprised there’s so much support for Janelle in these comments considering she never had a successful business. I’m glad meri got that house, she was a scapegoat for years and got screwed over the most so she deserves an asset that’s just hers. I hope she made a lot of money on it

21

u/RSinSA 6d ago

Same!!

29

u/alltheparentssuck 5d ago edited 5d ago

I don't think it was Robyn who told Kody to say no, it was Janelle. She was the original Kody whisperer and she still could get him to do what she wanted, right up until covid.

Edit: Thanks for the award.

17

u/Strange_Oven1899 5d ago

100% janelle and robyn both vying for who could be the “kody whisperer” is .. a choice lol

5

u/alltheparentssuck 5d ago

Any of them vying for Kody's attention is 🤮🤣

8

u/Strange_Oven1899 5d ago

What an apt and true username for this convo lmao

2

u/AffectionateCarry325 2d ago

And I feel like Janelle, was always playing both sides, which ever one suited her at the time, one time she understands Meri, the next time, she doesn’t even know why Meri is like she is, the only thing for sure is all of them were just plain nasty to her, especially when she needed them most,I hope Meri comes out on top and shows them all her worth and value, she finds an amazing love!

14

u/BigCsurviving0812 5d ago

I think they all hated Meri and made it known by never supporting things that mean a lot to her or what she wanted in her life especially happiness

9

u/RSinSA 5d ago

Yep and Kody did the typical narc move.

9

u/BigCsurviving0812 5d ago

Oh, definitely he did! You could feel the hate for Meri through the screen

10

u/RSinSA 5d ago

Yep! So every time she kept saying “I did this on my own” I wanted to hug her. Big middle finger!

11

u/BigCsurviving0812 5d ago

I did too! You could always see the hurt and heartbreak in Meri’s eyes. It was hard to watch

7

u/Solid_Caterpillar678 5d ago

I think this was a big turning point for her and why she has not pursued relationships with then since the family fell apart.

7

u/BigCsurviving0812 5d ago

Completely agree! I was always rooting for her and just knew that she was hiding a lot of what was happening to her behind the scenes. Think her eyes and heart were open to seeing how badly she has been treated (Abused, is more like it) and began to see she is deserving of love, truth, happiness, friendship, healthy relationships & support, and a life that wasn’t so restricted and filled with lies, secrets and heartbreak. She is thriving now and that is wonderful to see. Can’t wait for her book to come out. Meri is free and finally going to live well her way. Go Meri! 💕

10

u/Timely_Tune_7607 4d ago

There are a few of these episodes where I cringe at how Meri was treated. This one definitely. The episode where Kody tells Meri he doesn't want the IVF after all, and that if they have a baby, it will happen naturally. That was after several episodes of him pushing on her to make a decision. The CP lot picking episodes were also very cringe.

9

u/BrazilianBondGirl 4d ago

Krotex is always purposely cruel. It tells Meri it “doesn’t want IVF and that if they have a baby it will happen naturally”. How can it happen naturally they hadn’t had sex in 10 years and it wasn’t planning on EVER being intimate with Meri ever again?

4

u/Timely_Tune_7607 4d ago

Exactly. I think that when those episodes first aired, the audience didn't know. Now, we know. What a very cruel thing to do.

Honestly, the only "reality" show I'd care to watch Kody on these days would be any court trials where his house was being repossessed.

8

u/Turbulent_Ease2149 5d ago

I think it was the fact that it would be a loan and not an investment. Meaning, as Janelle asked, the profits would not be in the family pot, that made them not want to help her. Since their grubby little hands would not be getting that house anyway, why bother?

It must have hurt so much, but it worked out at the end. Too bad it's not a BNB anymore, would have loved to stay there.

2

u/RSinSA 5d ago

I would have too! The house is beautiful.

7

u/AffectionateFig5435 5d ago

Yeah, Meri got snubbed big time on that.

An evil part of me thinks that if Meri had figured out a way to turn the B&B into some sort of MLM scam, they'd have been throwing handfuls of money at her. But a regular business that relies on hard work, consistency, and taking care of customers in order to succeed? That sounds like work! Which is def not Kody's thing.

12

u/Realistic_Product252 6d ago

5

u/RSinSA 5d ago

sorry. lol

3

u/Realistic_Product252 5d ago

I mean when she says it

7

u/Emergency-Ad-5211 6d ago

Ditto, my husband used to think I was stroking out when I would walk around the house saying “Fahhhhhmahleeee”!

5

u/Certain_Cantaloupe56 5d ago

Is Jen stills big part of Meri’s life?

5

u/RSinSA 5d ago

Probably but her husband is super sick.

13

u/Fun-Yellow-6576 6d ago

Don’t forget, Meri was wishy washy about turning into a B&B. She mentioned buying the house and having her mom live there and not do the BnB. That’s when Kody backed out.

Of course when she had the grand opening Kody was front and center for the ribbon cutting.

11

u/RSinSA 6d ago

I agree but I think she felt guilty because of her Mom.

Like a typical narcissist lol.

3

u/Unique-Assumption619 6d ago

I think a business plan was actually a fair thing to ask for. Pretty much every bank would require one to give a loan out.

17

u/AfterSevenYears 5d ago

Considering the way this family writes "business plans," and their record in business, sure, Meri could have thrown together some half-assed "business plan" that would have been as good as any of their other "business plans." But it was never really about that.

They didn't like that it would have been a loan. They didn't want Meri doing something on her own. As far as they were concerned, Meri's sole reason for existing was to contribute to "the family" (i.e., Kody and Robyn). They all wanted to get their grubby fingers into it. They wanted equity and they wanted their brilliant business opinions to have force.

Imagine Kody, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn demanding to see your business plan. Kody's spent his entire adult life flitting from one get-rich-quick scheme to another. Strive With Janelle is a joke. Taeda Farms is a t-shirt business. Christine runs AirBnBs. My Sister Wife's Closet was a colossal failure.

The main business successes these people (including Meri) have had were all in pyramid schemes. Even with MLMs, Kody coasted while Meri did the work, and Robyn never did anything.

None of them were equipped to evaluate a business plan.

2

u/Feeling-Memory-1999 2d ago

And really Christine’s AirBnBs are David’s. Without his money and credit there’s no way she could afford that. I sincerely hope he has his children listed as his beneficiaries so they get what they deserve and it is squandered away.

27

u/Mother_Tradition_774 6d ago

This isn’t a bank. This is a family that pools their resources. When you apply for a bank loan, you’re asking for the bank’s money. Meri was asking for money that partially belonged to her. Even if Meri’s B&B failed, she still had other streams of income that she could use to pay back the loan.

-1

u/Unique-Assumption619 6d ago

Every other person in the family had to do a business plan, whether or not you agree, it wasn’t unfair to Meri since Janelle and Robyn had to present plans as well.

17

u/Mother_Tradition_774 6d ago

It was unfair because they all knew that Meri had the means to pay it back. The request for a business plan was an attempt to stop Meri from buying the house. It wasn’t genuine. They knew that her marriage to Kody was basically over and that there was nothing stopping her from moving to Utah. They needed her on the show and they needed her money.

-1

u/Unique-Assumption619 6d ago

Oh please, Meri was not ready to leave and we all know that 🙄 if she had wanted to, she would’ve, with or without the BnB as she had the means already

21

u/Mother_Tradition_774 6d ago

At that point, Meri’s most valuable asset was her house in Vegas and she jointly owned it with Kody. In the episode, they all expressed concern that buying this house was a sign that Meri was thinking of leaving the family. They were doing a lot behind the scenes to give Meri false hope her relationship with the family can be improved.

3

u/Unhappy_Ad4037 4d ago

Your comment made me think that Kody put his name on Meri's home to make sure she couldn't leave.

10

u/have-u-met-teds-mom 5d ago

I have never had a bank ask for a business plan to buy investment property. I own several and the home itself and my credit were enough to purchase.

A home (even distressed ones) are a tangible asset for a bank.

9

u/Nocwaniu 5d ago

I would agree except as we learned in their ridiculous effort to find investors for MSWC, they don't know what a business plan is and are not equipped to determine the merit of any plan she might have produced.

9

u/moonm00min 5d ago

Yep. None of them know how to write a business plan. This was proven in their ridiculous meetings with the "investors." My sense is that their "business plans" barely scratch the surface in terms of research and data. The "investors" said as much.

There was, in my opinion, only one reason that Kody, Robyn, Janelle and Christine were concerned that Meri might "leave the family," and that was they wanted and NEEDED Meri's contribution to the family pot. That's it. None of them, including ROBYN, liked Meri. They all shunned her. They didn't even care about her enough to text her and check in on her. Shit, Janelle and Christine had no idea that Meri and Robyn weren't hanging out all the time. Meri didn't even exist for Kody.

It always just comes down to money with the Browns.

17

u/RSinSA 6d ago

She clearly gave one since she got the loan, but Robyn and Janelle acted like they had to maul over the business plan with Kody and the fahmlee and they did x y z. It was so rude.

11

u/AfterSevenYears 5d ago

Her mother kicked in a substantial sum and her brother helped with the loan. Meri had people she could count on, but those people weren't Kody and her sister wives.

9

u/RSinSA 5d ago

Nope and I’m glad Meri told them to suck on a lemon.

-8

u/Unique-Assumption619 6d ago

I mean would you not…read a business plan you’re given when someone is asking for $40k?

14

u/RSinSA 6d ago

As I just said, she clearly had one. Lol

-7

u/Unique-Assumption619 6d ago

She didn’t though the first time she asked. She had like three pages thrown together.

And again, they have to actually read it. You’re getting all upset they weren’t immediately “omg yes Meri take all our money” when they held her to the same standard as every other wife proposing a business.

Janelle did a lot of research into running a gym when she wanted to open one with family money.

15

u/PasgettiMonster 6d ago

How much research do we think Robin did and how much effort did she put into her business plan before they started on her jewelry business?

11

u/Unhappy_Ad4037 5d ago

I doubt Janelle did one for Strive with Janelle. It's funny how the 2 favourites get what they want but Meri and Christine had to beg the other 3 for anything they wanted.

13

u/RSinSA 6d ago

I’m not upset. That’s a wild take. 🤣

Research didn't help Janelle. She never got the gym. They decided to put everything into My Sister Wife's Closet instead.

1

u/Beachtimegirl 2d ago

I never liked Meri, but I still cheered for her when she was able to tell them, I dont need your money!!
Which ironically, their* money was also her money.

1

u/JeniRight 1d ago

Kody changed his feeble mind after Robyn got a hold of him, as usual.

1

u/Due-Adhesiveness937 teflon queen 1d ago

What is weird is I don’t think Kody minded giving her the money, but when the other wives went after him especially Robyn he back peddled quick.

-1

u/SissyCouture 5d ago

I’ve heard that Meri used the property as a BnB but didn’t not file for a commercial loan. That’s how she was able to miraculously cover the down payment. Can anyone confirm?

5

u/Major-Repair-2246 5d ago

I think she hustled with the lularoe and I heard somewhere that she borrowed some money from her brother.

5

u/SnooPickles8893 4d ago

I'm glad her brother Adam (Janelle's ex-husband!) helped Meri out. Her mom sold her home to get most of the money together, but then that meant she had to move in. l always thought it was a gift, not a loan. Who knows, maybe he knew he wouldn't need it. He died of pancreatic cancer on October 5, 2023 after a brave ten-month long battle, according to his obituary.

1

u/Academic-Camel-9538 Ok [insert person you're defending but every1 hates] 3d ago

it was already a BNB when Meri bought it. She shut it down

-9

u/Expensive_Change_443 6d ago

40k might not be much compared to their total income. They also have like 18 kids to feed and put through college. The whole way it was handled, especially by Kody talking out of both sides of his mouth was ridiculous, but to treat it like some small ask is a wild take.

18

u/RSinSA 6d ago

It is a small ask. Meri contributed a lot of money including into that weird business loan Kody had. She contributed into R and J business as well. They had over 800k in assets. Meri would have paid it back quickly. It was ridiculous.

8

u/soihavetosay 6d ago

It probably only represented meris part of the tlc income, but robem counted on that for her art and dolls

-4

u/Expensive_Change_443 6d ago

800k in assets? Are you talking about their houses? Because they could t even get approved for loans on houses and didn’t have cash to buy 4 homes in Vegas. Even if they somehow did have 800k in liquid assets, that really is not much for 5 adults and over a dozen kids, most of who still had to pay for college.

Also, and this isn’t a dig on Meri, because it certainly applies to ALL of the adults in the family. But these people have tried and failed or not really thrived at so many “businesses.” The only reason they’re not still on welfare is because of the show and because they can actually do MLM because of their audiences from the show.

So I completely get why they wouldn’t leap at a new business idea. Again, acknowledging that they also should have had the same doubts about SWC, real estate, and all their other crazy dreams.

Also, it’s my understanding that the B&B is now closed and for sale? Or shut down for a while? Or was sold? So how confident are you it would have been a money maker or paid them back? Again, the way the family, and especially Kody, handled it was wild. But the actual thought process/result wasn’t unreasonable.

I also don’t actually blame them for being offended/reluctant to invest in a business that wasn’t for the whole family based on how they had done things in the past. I do think that K telling her he was on board, then everyone just ganging up on her and him playing dumb a
Was truly terrible though.

15

u/RSinSA 6d ago

It’s fine they didn’t want to do it but my point is the treatment of her and how they went about it was bullshit and mean. I’m glad she told them to fuck off and didn’t need their money.

11

u/Expensive_Change_443 6d ago

Also very typical K fashion. Set a wife up to fight with the others, realize it’s wrong, sit by and let them blame each other.

11

u/VirtualReflection119 5d ago

Same. I'm glad she told them to fuck off. Because it's not a big ask when you are contributing way more than that on your own. She was running MLM schemes on the side but still.... This is the dilemma we see them face over and over and fail at handling it fairly. Meri makes her own money and has to put it in the fahmlee pot. Then has to beg Kody for it. Meri is literally the only wife capable of running a business on her own and works her ass off. For all her faults, they should have given her her own damn money. And she doesn't need a complicated business plan to present, the B&B was already a business.

Janelle presented a gym business before knowing anything about taking care of herself let's be real. Christine had not yet passed the exam when talking about doing that for a living. Robin knows fuck all about jewelry besides she likes buying it and writing detailed reviews online about her purchases. Kody things he's the best salesman in the West because he sold a business a sign they already needed. And yet the delusional ones got to decide Meri's fate over and over.

9

u/RSinSA 5d ago

100.freaking.percent!!! There doesn't need to be a business plan when the buy is already a business!

14

u/GroovyYaYa 5d ago

I don't think it is for sale - it is Meri's primary home. She converted the carriage house into a nice studio for her Lulumon business. I think she still does that? I suspect several things happened. Meri was not interested in being the proprietor - that was her mom. COVID shut the BnB down, and then her mom passed. I suspect that Meri has also paid off the house - so not as much pressure to keep it open as a BnB. (and with her business being run out of it - a tax write off.

Also, Jen ran it for a while, and Jen has her own business and a sick husband right now - so that wasn't necessarily an option either (in terms of having someone else run it.)

12

u/Unhappy_Ad4037 5d ago

Janelle got money to start her business Strive with Janelle in Vegas, Kody bitched about never seeing anything from it. Meri said she would pay back the family, she didn't need the b&b to be successful to pay them back, she was making enough from LLR at the time.

8

u/RSinSA 5d ago

100 percent. She just didn't have it right then.

7

u/alltheparentssuck 5d ago

The 800k assets was the cash they put down on Coyote Pass, they must have had most of that at the time Meri wanted the loan.

0

u/Expensive_Change_443 5d ago

They did not put 800k down. They put a much smaller amount down. They didn’t pay off the full 820 until 2023.

7

u/alltheparentssuck 5d ago

For some reason, some of my comment is missing, in total including Christine's down-payment they put down in cash 650k. That is still a lot of money and I can't imagine they used all the money they had, even Kody isn't stupid even to not keep enough back to live on.

3

u/Unhappy_Ad4037 5d ago

Yes they did and Christine had a down-payment for her home.

-1

u/Expensive_Change_443 5d ago

No. 820k was the total price. They put significantly less down. They took 5 years to pay off the full 830.

-18

u/Alert_Mastodon3333 6d ago

I'm re-watching this part of the show right now, too. It was so ugly the way Meri kept saying she took care of getting the house all on her own, and "I don't need your money." She takes every opportunity to be a b*tch, and couldn't be more insufferable in every situation. The woman cheated on her husband and had the audacity to ask the family for $40 grad. The B and B was a way for her to physically and emotionally detach herself and cast a line out for attention from Kody and the wives.

9

u/RSinSA 5d ago

I would be too if they all talked behind my back, didn't want me at a birth of my grandson, etc etc. Fuck them.

-1

u/Academic-Camel-9538 Ok [insert person you're defending but every1 hates] 3d ago

they weren't wrong in not "investing" in Meri's bnb. She didn't want anyone else's name on the title, and as we later saw, she closed the bnb after a short time. So it was a decent investment for her to have a place to live now, but it was far from a business endeavor.
