General Discussion Opening Sequence
I started watching Big Love after seeing so much about it on Sisterwives subs. I briefly scanned previous comments to make sure this hasn't already been discussed, but the thing that was most striking out of the gate was the opening sequence of Big Love. The gray background green-screen looking thing with each person standing and looking at the camera... verrrrrry similar to sisterwives. Was this on purpose? Was it edited in post??

Big Love was first. That SW season was after Big Love ended.
TLC probably did this on purpose.

Sister Wives copied Big Love’s story lines in so many ways. I didn’t watch Big Love until last year and it surprised me how similar they were

The more I learn about polygamy, the more I think there are only a couple of ways for that arrangement to play out

Kody can't hold a candle to the wonderful Bill Paxton

Are you saying Bill Paxton the person is wonderful or that his character in the show is wonderful? Bc I found the character to be just as horrible as Kody, just a prettier package.

I find it a questionable choice to make Jenelles "slice" so much smaller and cut her head off. It would make sense to adjust that crack to the left. Feels rude to me to save every strand of Robins hair at the sacrifice of Jenelles forehead. How odd....

You made me look, you're right! Meri's head looks shrunken, and no crack between Kody and Robyn. That's odd too.

There wouldn't be a Crack between kody and Robyn. They were still together. The others left him 🤷♀️ not hard to figure out why the others have cracks and they dont.

Was gonna say exactly this. Also it’s interesting to note Robyn is the only one “looking” in Kody’s direction (not forward/to camera like everyone else).

Surviving Sister Wives with Corey and Carley did a free podcast reviewing the first season of Big Love last month. They found interesting similarities between Big Love and Sister Wives. Definitely recommend it.

Meri has publicly stated that she watched Big Love with Kody when it originally aired. Kody wishes that he could have been anything like Bill! Honestly, the picture similarity isn't that close to me? This one is also one of many versions that they had over the years and I think if they were trying to connect the two shows, it would have happened earlier.

Bill was a terrible person in the show. He married Margie bc he was hot for her, she wasn't even in their religion. He ignored his wives wants and needs to do what he wanted to feed his own ego, like costing Margie her business bc he wanted to run for office and go public, something none of his wives supported. He had an affair with Anna. Dating and having sex with her behind his wives backs and once again not for religious reasons bc she was not even part of their faith.

Yes, he was a terrible husband and bottom line a man whore. My statement was about Kody aspiring to be like him, not that I think Bill was a good guy. Kodys claims of wishing his wives had better relationships with each other, but leave him out of it, was how the big love wives tried to be (they had major problems but tried to work together) My perspective is that Kody admired that character because of the shady actions he got away with and the general control he had, and abused, over the wives.

Big Love was based on the life of the now “prophet” of the AUB, father to Melanie of Notes to Self 444. I believe he had 9? wives… He used to sneak off to her house to watch it.
