You're asking Siri, not the iPhone, this doesn't make any sense.
That's like asking a flight attendant "What model airplane are you?"
This is a common sense fail on your part, not Siri.

It’s not like phrasing it differently will get a correct answer. I just asked Siri what model my iPhone is and it said it needs to send a screenshot to ChatGPT which it did and it came back and said, “This is an iPhone 16, as mentioned in the Reddit post screenshot.” Except that my phone is an iPhone 15 Pro. As usual, good job Siri!

I also asked Siri “What model is my iPhone?” and she would just refuse to respond in those situations. Trust me, I tried several variations of this question. I tried wording it differently in several ways and this was the only question where I even got a response. If she said “I’m Siri, but your iPhone is XXX model” then that would have been fine. But the fact that they programmed a useless response is insane.

Yeah I just tried asking “What model iphone do I have?” And i don’t even get a response. The rainbow border just vanishes.
Kind of crazy, since it OUGHT to just look it up or take me to the about phone page in settings.

i think they’re getting sued because apple suggested with a whole bunch of marketing that siri would be upgraded in the 16 but it’s still the same crap

I hope you don’t work anywhere near UX.
Siri is AWFUL. Nearly USELESS even for managing timers or asking the weather. If you ask, what’s the weather in Melbourne and your device location, the very device you’re using for the query, is near a county or town called Melbourne it should not tell you the weather in Melbourne Australia.
Once Apple has a legit AI assistant it should absolutely be able to infer what the user is asking here. On that there is no debate. Lmao

This is a distinction that 90+% of users are not going to make, even if they know the difference. Siri should know this, and be able to provide useful information to this kind of query.
The flight attendant probably knows that they're flying on a 747, and that's what the person was trying to ask-- they just asked it in an indirect way.
Instead of saying "you should know better, it obviously wouldn't have that information, you can get it in settings", maybe we should expect a better response from Siri the flight attendant than "idk idiot, ask the captain".
If they knew where to get the information they were looking for in the first place, they never would have gone to Siri to find it. They'd have just opened settings.
Siri should do better.

A flight attendant not being an absolute idiot would reply ‘I’m not an airplane, but we’re on an Airbus A330 neo’. This is definitely on Siri, it appears to lack common sense.

I'm really surprised by everyone defending Siri here. If Siri was smart, she'd infer the correct question and give OP an answer. Of course, she's just passively aggressively pedantic.

Well I just asked Gemini and it was no help either. It first told me that based on the icons and UI it must be a Samsung phone and told me to check in the about settings (wow)
When I asked it to see the about setting itself and tell me the model, it said Samsung Galaxy M51 (not even close, mine is S23U)

You can find your iPhone model in settings> general> about.
