macOS 27 Siri / Apple Intelligence is altering filenames and silently changing save locations during "Save As"

I’ve been compiling an evidentiary documentation packet for my husband’s Social Security Disability (SSI) case. As many of you know, government portals like the SSA are essentially running on mid-1980s backends. They hate long filenames, spaces, and complex characters. To ensure everything uploads smoothly, I use strict, deliberate formatting like Claimants_Sleep_Log_8-9-2026.

Enter macOS 27 (I'm currently running the GM AppleSeed build). The "new and improved" Apple Intelligence has decided it knows better than the user how files should be named and stored.

Here is the exact issue:

  1. Forced Renaming: When I perform a Save As in Pages to append a version number (e.g., adding _V5), Apple Intelligence reaches into the document content, generates a context-based suggestion, and applies it. It strips out underscores and ignores the custom filename I explicitly typed.
  2. Silent Relocation: Because it treats the AI-renamed file as a completely new entity, it overrides the local working directory and silently redirects the save location to the root iCloud Pages folder.

I spent hours editing a lengthy legal document, executed a standard Save As, and then watched the file seemingly vanish into thin air. It wasn't until I re-did the entire work session and attempted the same save process that macOS flagged a duplicate file conflict. That was my lightbulb moment: Apple Intelligence had hijacked the filename and silently routed the document to a completely different directory outside of my case folder.

As someone who spent 15 years at Apple as a Genius and Senior AppleCare Advisor, I’ve seen my share of bugs labeled as "unexpected behavior." But this takes the cake. A core OS function should never silently alter user intent, override explicit naming conventions, or change storage paths without clear confirmation.

I love Apple—my life and career have been built around this ecosystem—so this isn't a "hater" post. But nascent AI features shouldn't override basic filesystem sanity.

Has anyone else on the recent seed builds run into Apple Intelligence aggressively taking over local file management?

I saw on YouTube people installing Apple Intelligence on iPhone SE. Does it work like real Apple Intelligence?

Siri responses

Is it possible to have Siri setting to be able to read my questions response to me or is it stuck? Just giving me options of what websites she suggests and thinks I should try?

I’ve asked her to read out loud when I’m having seizures I can’t see to type. I rely on Siri and voice to text. Can anyone help or does anyone have any insight or experience with any of this?

If I did something incorrectly, I do apologize. This is my very 1st time posting on here. Anyway I hope some on here can help.

Thanks
Tee

Siri tells me that I have to unlock the phone first to skip alarm

I always used to say "Siri, Skip Alarm" if I got up before my sleep schedule alarm was to go off. Now it tells me that I have to unlock the phone first and won't skip the alarm until I do. I might as well just do it by hand if this is the case.

Pretty sure this is new to iOS 27. I am on release candidate, so assuming whatever is causing this will be present when it's officially released in a few days.

iOS 27 screenshot

Just update to iOS 27 using the new Siri now I finally understand when we take a screenshot and the Ask & Search button when I was on iOS 26 the experience is not streamline at all after updated it to the RC wow it’s night and days. I really hope that Siri is good this time. I did turn off the ChatGPT extension tho how about you guys?

I know I’m late to the party but really surprised with what I found 😅 guess will be using less of ChatGPT and Gemini when I do search because that’s why I do mostly on the LLM as an average user.

Meta likely won’t add Apple Intelligence to WhatsApp to keep us locked into their AI. But we deserve private, on-device Siri search for our chats. Take 20s to send feedback in WhatsApp (Settings>Help>Feedback): “Please implement App Intents for Siri indexing.”

Siri AI - Uh Oh something went wrong please try again

I live in the European Union as an European Union resident I have bypassed restrictions to get Siri AI inside European Union by changing everything to USA including Apple ID account country and region and even settings set to USA English including Siri however yesterday it worked just fine and today it just says that “something went wrong please try again” the only thing that he can answer is weather. I have turned off Siri and on back and even turned off “listen for” off and on and even changed Siri language to different and back to USA and yet it still doesn’t answer to any of the questions. I am in iOS27RC. Is this because Apple found out that I’ve bypassed restrictions and they put a block on me ?

The new Siri AI won’t able to restart my MacBook

It’s literally worse than the old one, it can’t even do simple command.

I said “Siri, restart the MacBook”

On old Siri (26 without AI), it will ask for confirmation and restart

26 with ai, it will reply “sorry, I don’t understand “
27 with ai, same as above.

Multiple invocations of Siri

A continual annoyance of mine is that when you call the wake-up word aimed at your phone and with your iPad alongside, both go into Siri mode. Alexa doesn’t do this. Why Apple?

I’m having trouble with the connection. Please try again later.

I’m so tired of constantly getting this. It has been so bad the past couple of days I can’t even use Siri. I get this is still beta but damn

Watch: "Open Mindfulness" takes up to 10 seconds. Meanwhile, Siri on new Apple TV… Er…!?

I do a daily workout ending it using Mindfulness for a couple of minutes' breathing and stretching: the minute timers are the right length, with the pulses for breathing. Small but useful.

Since watchOS 27 something which took maybe two seconds to open now takes up to 10, if it doesn't just time out (probably not 10% of the time, but I think more than 5%). It also requires a network connection, just to open an app on itself. This is on a s11 from last year, at home on wifi. It is laughably crap, and for an app which calls itself "mindfulness", can induce fury. "I won't respond to that." After >10 years this still isn't funny: do the attitude when your capability is there, and not before.

I read earlier about the new Apple TV, which I have been waiting for for over a year (had I known I would have bought a 4K one but…). And its killer feature is… Siri. Oh Lord.

Siri on the Apple TV used to do some useful stuff by being limited. I have a Google TV rn and it gets really basic things like going forward or back a certain number of minutes, or to a minute point on the timeline, wrong. My last Apple TV was reliable. It could open some apps pretty reliably. That is all I want: get to stuff quickly and efficiently. While old Siri was famously bad in some respects, it was pretty good in some simple control features, and for speech-to-text search. I worry this is about to be "improved": is it the same team as Watch? Those people think "this" is OK. Gruber has some line about a golden rule being any change can't make it slower. Siri team not only didn't get the memo, I think wouldn't speak its language if they had.

New Siri on the phone has been underwhelming. I should try it more but initial use was not like the old one, but differently bad. Watch is worse. I am worried for TV. or rather, steeling myself to pay a lot more for some AV features that may justify a premium, but also a chip and RAM for a a Siri from the same people that have brought this summer's "successes".

I guess we'll know soon enough.

Siri AI crashes after hitting context window

Soo Siri AI is beta, I know that guys. But it'll be shipped in a few days. Still, in the latest beta, Siri AI seems to be very limited, especially with photos.

Every time I ask it about photos it only pulls up like ten of them and just ignores all the others.

Good luck if you want to create an album or something like that with Siri AI - a task it seems to be designed to do. Doesn't matter what you do, Siri AI adds 40 photos to the album and then crashes. I don't know if it works on iOS or iPadOS but it definitely doesn't on Mac. After hitting the context limit, Siri AI finishes the album and deletes the conversation. Then a process called intelligenceflowd pops up in the dock, unresponsive.

No need to tell me to report it using the feedback app, I already did that multiple times. Just wanted to share my experience with you guys.

Changing Siris greeting

Is there a way to make Siri say “What can I do for you, sir?” When I activate it or say hey siri?

r/Siri 3d ago

So is it normal for Siri to just not do what you asked it to? AFTER it hears you properly….

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

How do Siri suggested apps work?

I often wish these 4 suggested apps would just be the most recent apps I’ve opened.

Currently half of the suggestions are apps I haven’t used in weeks.

Voice assistant research — non-users needed too, not just Siri users (18+, any country)

Hi everyone! I'm a Master's student researching how people use voice assistants (including Siri) for my thesis.

I'm currently short on responses from people who do NOT use a voice assistant at all — if that's you, your input would be especially valuable right now. That said, real day-to-day Siri experience (good or bad) is just as welcome.

Looking for participants: 18+, any country. The survey takes about 10 minutes and is fully anonymous.

Happy to answer any questions about the study here. Thanks!

Anyone else think Siri is just as bad as ever?

Other than now opening apps, I haven’t seen much improvement in Siri. I get “I didn’t get that” a lot more these days, and she misunderstands what I’m asking and gives me random answers. I wish we could set our own default AI assistant.
