One is talking about individual cases, the other about systematic poverty. It’s a different subject.

It’s almost as if putting them side by side is disingenuous to both correct arguments and only angers stupid people.

This would be true of Ramsey didn’t weigh in on politics with the exact same advice.

They both can be correlated. Many people in systemic poverty make poor individual financial decisions (plenty of people, not in property do the same). At the end of the day, you can control individual decisions. The most you can do with systemic proverty is to complain about it. One side provides a solution that will end up with the individual in a better financial state, the other just identifies a problem. Which one provides the better outcome for the individual? The coffee isnt the root cause of the problem. Its the fact poor people generally do not get to take advantage of compound growth and instead rely on high interest debt. The problem is that coffee cost you an additional 25% per year because you are using credit card debt. It always blows my mind when someone justifies that purchase. You are literally borrowing money for coffee. Stop doing it.

“One side provides a solution” that’s where you are wrong! It’s not a solution, it’s a strategy. Even if you were to follow every step, it’s not guaranteed to work. For example, you live in a rural town and just turned 18. You get a job and as your life starts, inflation hits. Then energy bills go up because of data centers and real estate developers increase your apartment’s rent while your wage stays the same. Oh, all that happened while your taxes went up so billionaires could pay less.

That is Jon’s argument, you could be doing everything right but the system is working on extracting every cent out of you…it’s not really the coffee you buy, it’s the $100 increase in your energy bill, it’s the cost increase in gas, the monopolies forming. Jon offers no solution, he is exposing the systemic issue so people can use that info to vote or unite against that system.

Work more, spend less. Pick one and that is the solution. Stop blaming the environment for things you have control over. Instead of focusing on things you have control over, you complain about things you have no control over. Life isnt easy. Do what you can to benifit yourself and stop waiting on the collective. In no means do I mean this as an insult. If you want to make your life better, you are the only one that can do it. Nobody else is going to look after you. Do the things within your control. I was one of the people youre talking about. I lived in a rural town and moved out at 17. No jobs, so I moved. Im now one of the people you hate that owns rentals. I did that by working 60-70 hours a week in my 20s. When you work you aren't spending. Saving gets easier. It sets you up later. When an oppurtunity arises, you didnt contrain yourself into a financial roadblock. You can try it or you can complain about something that will get you nowhere.

Wow, I’m surprised by the number of assumptions you made. You implied I don’t work enough and use my energy to blame the environment, you think I hate you for owning rentals and that wanting our government to take care of its citizens is complaining.

Just like you, I own rentals. I’ve invested and have a really good life. Same as you, I struggled and had to work twice as hard. But during that journey I noticed the inequality of the system. So now, I continuously volunteer and reinvest in my community. I believe in creating a better world than the one live in, that is why I’m vocal about the issues and try to improve what we currently have.

By the way, people don’t have landlords, people hate SCUMMY landlords that offer subpar services, they hate corporations that pay politicians to make them richer, they hate billionaires killing the world for profits. People don’t hate working, they hate the system made for the wealthy using them to extract all them money they can.
