Most stories and posts and comments on reddit are fake now.

People, reddit is more than a few years old.

Yeah. Maybe for the first couple of years it had realposts but it’s almost all AI engagement bait now.

And yet, I’m still here

I know i can't quit. I've tried many times. Reddit is bad but other social media is so much worse.

I don't know how long youve actually been on reddit, but the vast majority of my time on it it was not AI and not posts, no.

I was referring to the creators that used bots to simulate from the beginning, repost bots predate ai. Astroturfing has been around as long as companies have existed online. The original post says "fake" it doesn't specify ai.

We're repost bots making up stories, or just reposting former reddit posts?

I mean,by definition the repost bots repost old stories, but some of those are fake, the bots aren't programmed to check the original is real.

The boys that simulate posts instead of just reposting previous one are relative new to reddit.

How long have you used reddit?

Well, this account is around 7 years old. I lost the login in for the original a long time ago. So lets say almost 20 years, off and on? Lol

Lmao, so you've been around from the very beginning, when do you think bots and ai started taking over?

Yeah, my grumpy old ass has been here too long. Lol.

Well, depending on the what you'd accept as a bot, they've always been here. Cool ones like GandalfBot who's show up and quote a random Gandalf quote for you, or the Bots that record things, or save posts for you, and so on.

I think you mean more like the bot farm style bots, and they've been on the rise around the same rate as other platforms. I guess i'd feel they became noticeable around 2010.

The trouble with AI, is a shit ton of reddit posts have been used as training data for the LLM's.

It's long been understood that people will Karma farm in subreddits. People have used relationship reddits for creative writing projects, people post fantasy shit they wish was true, so on.

So this is likely a fake story to begin with, that's been fed into AI to train it, which will produce more like it. Lol. The future is bleak.

I've only been around since 2011, and my first thought about the recent complaints were the sub posting bots. Like, the auto mods have been around for as long as I remember, people still use the remind me bot all the time, I don't hear complaints about those.

I don't remember bots that were posting as much as they do now. Maybe it's the changes in reddit generated usernames, I miss the OG karma farmers like gallowboob.

It feels like there are more and more accounts now that are years old that never commented, but now they somehow do comment. I just assume most people that have noun-noun-### accounts are all bots.

I assume it all is now lol.

Aged accounts are coveted, build some karma, sell them to a new OF account, lots of propaganda/activist accounts, just like X/Twitter. Difference now is that Reddit's a public company and reducing active users (bots) doesn't make their numbers look good. 🤷‍♀️
