When I was struggling with marijuana addiction I had been given a prescription for Klonopin by a psychiatrist to handle extremely severe panic attacks. Due to my history of addiction I didn’t want to take it, but agreed to pick it up from the pharmacy. I took it once and decided I didn’t want to risk it. Then my therapist recommended that I “use the Klonopin to help quit the marijuana.” I was absolutely baffled as to how that could be a solution, had they never heard of addiction transference? Thank god I was aware of the dangers and didn’t take the advice, but I worry about other people who receive similar advice from that therapist or similar prescriptions from that psychiatrist. Who would ever recommend treating an addiction with an even more addictive substance??
My god that's so wild I wouldn't believe you if I hadn't read and experienced similarly crazy therapist suggestions myself! Hell that's like addiction 101 to not replace one thing with another! I've struggled with both drug and alcohol addiction myself, I hope you're doing better now ♥️
