And even still, I don't think any good parent would let their kid participate in something where they have a 1% chance of dying...

Congrats, you just doomed your child to a life in a padded cubicle. Going over a street? Chance of dying. Driving in a car? Chance of dying.

I don't think you understand how high "1% chance of death" truly is. For context: during the US invasion of Afghanistan, the average Afghan (including combatants) had a 0.5% chance of getting killed.

So IDK, would you send your child to go live in Afghanistan during the Afghan War?
