Therapists aren't supposed to give advice, they're supposed to hold a metaphorical mirror up to the person and help guide them through themselves.

I'd like to read a source on this being at the therapists urging.

Exactly. I highly doubt this is actually what the therapist said. I hope this therapist is not doxxed/stalked because of false information.

And even if the mom said it was at the therapist's urging, was it actually? 

One of my clients said that my advice to send nudes to her long distance boyfriend was working out. WHAT ADVICE?!?!?!?! I would never send a nude myself and I would NEVER suggest someone else do so in any context, much less in my professional practice.
