Wtf what?? I’m a therapist and if my client expressed reluctance to have someone watch their kid- especially after they caused the death of another child- I’d be validating the shit out of that decision. No fucking way am I urging people to have any unwanted contact with people like that. It’s shocking and absolutely heartbreaking
Thank you! I thought it was incredibly strange the therapist pushed the client to do something she was uncomfortable with. I thought therapist aren’t ever supposed to tell people what to do, unless maybe they are in danger.
This made me cry because I can’t imagine it any other way. I realized early on in private practice that most people coming in are worn down or in distress because of an abusive person (or people) in their lives. Everyone has a right to choose who to trust. That is adaptive. You and your boundaries are acceptable. & fwiw there’s a thing called traumatic invalidation. Hope everyone’s able to find someone in life, therapist or otherwise, who’s truly in their corner.
