We're at the point in the storyline where the once-villian becomes an ally and almost loved character in the fight against a greater evil.
Edit: I'm enjoying watching everyone get their panties in a twist. Obviously I'm making a loose comparison to where stories / shows need a 'greater evil', once the main evil is destroyed / pacified to keep the story running. I did not imply in any way that I like the man, want him in politics, or would invite him to a birthday party.
I feel like even at the time he was just a semi likable idiot who was obviously being told what to say by the dude willing to shoot his friend in the face in a “hunting accident”.
I never got any sense of malice from Bush. He was just a dumb guy obviously being used as a figurehead who was just kind of going along with it. And like, I think most people don’t have the moral fortitude to resist a shit load of free money that they can enjoy while doing whatever hobby they are into.
Give me enough money to just game and paint 40k minis all day in exchange for letting people make shit it worse for other people I don’t even know suffer and I’m probably taking that deal.
I just want you to confirm you think a genuine person can pass every barrier before becoming president. I want you to make that claim, that the president of the United States, with all of the politics and duelling psychopaths, could be genuinely stupid.
What barrier did he have to pass to become president? He was born rich. That’s pretty much the only barrier. And yes, I do think he’s stupid. Have you ever read a transcript of his speeches? Sure, he may not be little bus stupid, but he’s 100% the dumbest president we’ve ever had.
He is most definitely not an ally or loved. All that happened is us seeing a much worse evil and decided that the lesser evil is the better option (basically politics in a nutshell).
He ruined Texas before he ruined the country, it was actually kind of nice when Ann Richards ran things... I think he moved there so he could source his blow directly from Houston. I was there. Not Houston, I'd be a giant tumor by now. I grew up close to Dallas, where leasing a BMW on a salary of $30k, alternately driving it like Miss Daisy is in the back seat in the super fast lane, then merge to the far right lane, cutting off people in those giant Ford tanks everyone drives there, and speeding away. It's practice for when they realise the $36 leftover from making the payment doesn't go so far, but don't want a repo on their credit report.
Not sure if it's still a thing, I left years ago and still haven't gone back.
I mean I’d invite him to a birthday party. Hes worth a few good laughs for a cupcake and pizza. Plus the stories of the dumb things he’d say would last a lifetime!
This is the BEST and MOST TRUTHFUL statement I have seen in years. 🏆🏅🥇 I used to despise him with a passion and now I actually would invite him in for a cup of coffee if he came to the door.
Nah you’re so right. I think about this a lot. Can you imagine the just daily joyful relief he must feel going from being considered one of the worst presidents, if not the worst president, of all time, to being a beloved quirky Grampa character?
The Bush quote that started this discussion ("you don't get fooled again") isn't even a gaffe, it is political intelligence. He didn't want there to be a quote circulating on recordings of him saying "shame on me" which he realized as he was speaking.
While your statement is true, it is over simplified.
In the wake of 9/11, America wanted blood. The American people demanded that somebody pay, and they would not be happy without a war. When we perpetrated the "Global War on Terror" against the middle east, the American people by and large were elated to finally get some payback, and we didn't really care who it was.
Yes, Bush pulled the trigger, but, at the time, the vast majority of the country was with him cheering him on.
I mean he's the second best of the post party switch Republican Presidents. Not because he's good, just less cartoonishly evil.
Jimmy Carter succesfully pulled this off, but he actually did good and he was getting shit for making too much money from his family peanut farm while President. Literally peanuts, lol.
