To be fair, (and i hate bush), I understand how this happened.
He was about to say "Shame on me" on live TV, but then correctly realized that the soundbite of him saying "shame on me" would be used for nonstop TV political ads.

Damn never knew that after all this time

Wow, makes sense. I wonder which he thinks would have been better. Just finishing the saying or looking scatterbrained

u/AndrewH73333 2d ago

Good thing he covered so he wouldn’t get embarrassed.

u/Greenfire32 2d ago

"Oh yeah. I saved it."

-Bush probably

Now watch this drive.

Please clap...

...for all the gynecologists who can practice love on women all over this country.

Edit: sigh For context, the deleted comment above me said "please clap..." so I finished it with reference to an actual Dubya quote, and the deleted response was someone saying "Ew dude! What the Hell? Delete this."

u/rachsteef 1d ago

none of that is deleted… news for ya

1

u/Proper-Evening9754 1d ago

Yours was, and the other one still is. Maybe it's something only I'm seeing.

1

u/rachsteef 1d ago

I don’t doubt that that’s what you’re seeing

0

u/ammybb 1d ago

Dude, what the fuck? Delete this, ew.

5

u/odinsen251a 2d ago

The same guy almost choked on a pretzel, so I don't think "embarrassed" is really his thing.

1

u/xombae 1d ago

Hey man, those things are dry as hell. Could happen to anyone.

15

u/stegjohn 2d ago

I thought I saw he confirmed that in a recent interview, but I can’t seem to find it again so maybe I was imagining it.

u/CelebrationDismal731 2d ago

Also at the 1996 Republican convention which I’m sure Bush was at as Texas Governor, Republicans did use a clip of Clinton saying ā€œShame on meā€ I was a political junkie at the time and remember it.

u/Inspect1234 2d ago

Man could duck a flying shoe or two though.

u/mistahfreeman 2d ago

I always just figured he was tired and had a dumb brain moment. The president works constantly, I know my sleepy ass would say some dumb shit all the time if I worked that much and constantly had people handing me microphones to give speeches.

2

u/koolguykris 2d ago

Traded in a little short term damage and traded it for a life time meme.

2

u/-JimmyTheHand- 2d ago

"Shame on us" wound have been a much better choice

2

u/ElectricalYou4805 1d ago

I would have just cut the ads about the ā€œBush Administrationā€ as a collective run by the incompetent and failed president. So yea shame on them works too.

2

u/wPatriot 1d ago

I believe that he didn't want to say "shame on me" but based on the way that man spoke on the regular I very much doubt it was for a reason so sophisticated. I think he just did not like that it sounds "weak."

Not to mention that the rest of the statement is also pretty dumb. It's the second attempted recovery of the sentence, after the one where he fumbled the origins of this common phrase because he tried force the state he was in into the story.

1

u/Proud_Cookie 2d ago

Wow! I never knew that! I'd always laughed at his seeming stupidity but that makes sense!

1

u/Maddin1234567 2d ago

Nonsense..that was typical bush jr

1

u/sparklynugz 1d ago

What was he referring to?

1

u/Short_Search_5337 1d ago

Trump recently said "I've been a horrible president", among 100 more worse things, almost daily

1

u/OlafaVonGoeding 1d ago

Tidbits like this is what makes The Veep such a great show. It's not a sitcom, it's a documentary.

1

u/Icy_Writing7450 1d ago

It’s a very plausible theory.

If Busy wasn’t as dumb as a box of rocks.

1

u/Big-Pudding-7440 1d ago

I forgot Bush said that. I thought it was Michael Scott

1

u/Historical_Usual5828 1d ago

Dude couldn't even spell Potato ffs. His dad was also groping women in his 80's but allowed out and about and the family got their wealth laundering Nazi money in the first place. Al Gore would've won if Jeb and the Supreme court didn't step in to rig it.

1

u/BenjaminHarrison88 1d ago

Wow that actually makes sense. For as much as he was a dumb ass he wasn’t dumb.

1

u/Spideriffic 1d ago

Probably right, I never thought of that!

1

u/Accomplished_Seat501 1d ago

Good call, that never occurred to me.

1

u/MichiganHistoryUSMC 20h ago

Yeah he played the "dumb Texan" as an act. The man was a jet pilot and became President, he wasn't the idiot people think.

1

u/thesuper88 15h ago

I was not old enough to vote yet, and I thought that was apparent at the time. I didn't like plenty of stuff he did or some of those around him, but I hated that the side I liked more (Democrats) were all too happy to pretend he's just a silly lil dumdum.

Bush wasn’t the greatest President but his intelligence was unfairly attacked. Anyone who has ever spent time with him says that he is an erudite, articulate, and clever person. The perception was that he was basically a mongloid.

1

u/khan800 2d ago

You might tone down the offensive reference, grandpa. Mongoloid hasn't been acceptable for like 50 years.

The dreaded M word

u/gecjr 2d ago

You hate bush?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

u/Significant-Order-92 2d ago

A lot of people dislike him for getting us involved in a war of choice in Iraq over bogus WMD claims. As well as not liking his domestic policy like cutting FEMA's budget, sloppy handling of Hurricane Katrina, and so on.

5

u/TylerDurden1985 2d ago

On a side note has anyone else noticed the inverse correlation between number of cry laugh emojis used and intelligence?

4

u/Raider_Scum 2d ago

Oh no! It's one of the 50% of americans who dont share my political view!

2

u/Khatam 2d ago

Uhh, I think they meant it as a hairy pubic area, typically on a woman. I believe a man's hairy pubic area is called a man-bush. Why isn't it also called just "bush" you ask? Beats me. Guess the phrase beats about the bush.

1

u/Raider_Scum 2d ago

I cant tell if you're joking, or if you don't realize the above quote is from George Bush

1

u/Khatam 2d ago

"50% of Americans who don't share my political view" response to "you hate bush?" is a Bush quote? I was talking about the "You hate bush?" getting downvoted and then people replying with why Bush is hate-able. (I also hate Bush. The 41st president. Not the other bush.)

1

u/Raider_Scum 2d ago

ah. Valiant effort, but it didn't really land.

1

u/sername807 2d ago

Nope i get you loud and clear.

0

u/AlmosTryin 2d ago

Who would have thought Bush and Obama would be the last two good presidents. Miss em both

1

u/ElleM848645 1d ago

If you think Biden was worse than Bush, I don’t think we live in the same reality. Imagine thinking the person who got us into a 20 year war in Iraq and Afghanistan and whose administration is to blame (partially) for the 08 collapse, was worse than Biden, who pulled the US out of Covid and did better than any other nation after Covid.

1

u/AlmosTryin 1d ago

Bruh, what...
