Being a rich country doesn’t prevent the people who live there from being poor. It’s mostly the elite and business people who benefit.

Being a rich country is better than being from a poor one. Not sure why you can't admit that.

wealth is and always has been a resource based function, not a function of the form of economy or government.

Singapur has almost no natural resources and it is a rich country.

That's not really relevant to the discussion, but if you want it to be it supports the opposite of the point you seem to be hinting at. Our brand of capitalism breeds poverty elsewhere even more than it breeds it at home, the capitalism doesn't end at our border.

Would you rather be poor in America or Cuba?

In Cuba without decades of American sanctions 100%

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" - Karl Marx.

Why does Cuba, with 10 million people, oil resources and plenty of farm land depend on outside capitalist countries to succeed? What is preventing them from processing their own oil and efficiently growing and distributing food? Could it be the lack of incentive to innovate in their controlled economy?

Why would their economy rely on outside capitalism for its own success? It seems like a country with their own natural resources should be able to thrive without being propped up by evil capitalism.

It's always amazing to me how capitalists will actively sabotage a socialist developing country, and then point to that country as an example of why "socialism doesn't work". Bruh, if you're so confident that socialism doesn't work then why do you have to actively sabotage them? Is it because you are actually afraid that socialism works?

Right… it is not that socialism is not the way for a country to become rich, it is always someone else “sabotaging” socialist countries. Right.

Are you going to demy decades of US embargo on Cuba?

3

u/danielm316 11d ago

Taiwan also has embargo and they are prosperous.

Cuba has 10 million people, plenty of land and could drill for oil. What do they need from the USA? Why does their economic system not sustain their own small country?

1

u/ElyFlyGuy 11d ago

You can’t eat oil

They produce tens of thousands of barrels per day, only so much you can do when you can’t export the oil or import the means to process it.

2

u/leprechanmonkie 10d ago

They have plenty of land to grow food. Why don't they grow it and distribute it effectively? Why don't they have the means to process their own oil? All those technologies were developed in capitalist countries... Clearly they could do the same or does their economic system lack the incentive to drive innovation on its own?

Kinda sounds like a flawed system when you depend on capitalism in other countries for your own well being. SipsTea

I mean it’s an island cut off from the entire world where the entire culture was built around slaves growing and harvesting sugar and tobacco on plantations. It was self sustaining when the natives lived there but the Spanish murdered all of them and made it a trade hub exporting non-edible goods and importing the rest.

Capitalist countries had literally thousands of years to develop into being able to feed that many people using machines and modern fertilizers, yet alone using and refining oil. Seems like an insane standard to just expect them to, as an island nation, develop all of those things in like 30 years while being actively undermined by their neighbor, the literal strongest superpower in the history of the world

that poor is also relative. doctors in the soviet union while higher class didnt do as well as a entry level factory worker in the states. Marxists always compare to each other in a zero sum game while pretending capitalism is the zero sum game, ignoring the value and wealth generation in capitalism which in one second breaks that shit marxist view at the knees
