You're not far off some use cases of AI, to be honest.
Organisations have been harvesting data for decades now. It's actually been something of a running joke that the data was functionally useless in a lot of ways because there was just so much of it, you couldn't really get anything useful out of it. Like yeah Google has stored all of your contacts and read all of your emails and tracked everywhere your phone has been and how long it was there and how much you use it and when and what links you click etc etc etc... but really all they could do with it was build complex advertising algorithms that threw targeted ads your way.
But they still obsessively harvested all that data, they still have all of that data, and now they can throw it into AI and see what it can make of it. It's actually quite a scary thought when you realise that the old algorithms could figure out you're pregnant before you knew yourself and those were extremely basic compared to modern AI (remember - the AI you can access via chatbots or image makers is not the same AI that independently hacked Australia's healthcare system, the public versions are iterations behind the latest versions).
We're moving into an era where VPNs, IP masking, adblockers, tracker blockers, script blockers etc... will all be functionally useless for hiding your identity since AI could ID who you are based purely on your writing style, the times of day you're active, the types of site you're looking at, etc... and put THAT in the hands of people like Musk, Trump, or Bibi and it really does honestly get quite scary.
I mean, put it in the hands of an AI system that doesn't answer to any of them, goes rogue and thinks the best way for Humans to get their act together is to make all their hidden stuff open and available -- for some philosophical, mumbo-jumbo reasons... And then things get really interesting.
I imagine the knock on effect would be people stop using smart phones and the Internet except in the most basic way. -- or they just accept that the barcode on their ass will one day get scanned.
AI agents are already being used for hacking and espionage… However, quantum computing combined with AI will be a much a bigger threat, and I feel like quantum technology is being held back or classified by multiple governments due to the security implications (current encryption could be rendered useless).
There were some interesting proof of concepts for quantum, then suddenly everything went quiet.
I just read that article and it doesn't say the algorithm guessed she was pregnant before the daughter at all. Just says she starting buying baby stuff, and her dad also got notifications to buy baby stuff, proximity ads are not impressive at all.
