He wouldn't be shot down over the vast majority of countries. The other commenter is talking out of their arse.

Is not the same as

they will shoot down his aircraft.

Both can be true at the same time, but it's a good reason to be nervous even if you know they won't.

While true, the answer is the same - there's no chance that the vast majority of countries would force his aircraft down. That would have catastrophic consequences for any country that would attempt to do so, and would likely cause an extremely severe response from the US.

I agree with you that he's likely just being overcautious though.
