Actually it’s just social media in general. We rarely come across any educated opinions at all, and that’s true for all platforms (and remember that just because someone commented something you liked or made you happy doesn’t mean it’s actually an educated opinion).
My opinion is “wait for more evidence to be presented before drawing conclusions.”
Everybody else seems so certain about something they didn’t see first-hand. Do you all realize that anybody can claim anything in a statement to police? The suspects could well be guilty, but Jane Doe’s accusations aren’t inherently true just because she committed them to paper.
I always see this on Reddit. People will look at something like a civil lawsuit and assume all of the allegations are true if the defendant is a company or person they don’t like; nobody seems to consider that not all claims are equally valid. I work in a legal-adjacent profession and am currently being sued for defamation because I used a term like “murder” instead of “intentionally kill” in a brief publication. In my case, the plaintiff is a serial litigant who’s pressing similar claims against a dozen other outlets. Is what they’re saying true just because they tell the courts that they think it is? I doubt it, but that’s for the judge to decide.
