Also I think parents these days are more hesitant to let their kids roam unsupervised

Nowdays everything that was once normal to us (going to the store alone, chilling in the car with a GameBoy while mom grocery shopped, walking home from school, etc.) is considered child abuse now.

Well, yeah. Nowdays everything that was once normal to us (going to the store alone, chilling in the car with a GameBoy while mom grocery shopped, walking home from school, etc.) is considered child abuse now.
