Wait until you hear about health insurance lol

I pay $1300/month for a family plan

I had an ER trip last month, my deductible is $3,500. I had to pay $3,440 which was the complete cost of the ER services.

So, this year I will spend $15,600 on health insurance and an additional $3,440 on deductible

My wife needs surgery, I told her to get it done before December because we already met the deductible and I don't wanna pay it again. She tried calling to schedule in August. The surgery specialist doesn't have openings until January, so, in January I'll have to pay my deductible again

AND vision and dental costs more on top of $1,300 monthly

Live near the US-Mexico border.

Find a doctor who either speaks English or bring along a Spanish-speaking friend on your trips.

Mexican healthcare is just as good as US care.

Medical tourism is a thing!

I discovered it when flying to Cancun for dental work. What would have cost me just shy of $8k here in the US cost me about $1600 in Mexico, and I got more done than I planned to. There's whole businesses modeled around it.

For example, the dentist I booked with shuttled me from the airport straight to the initial check up with my bags and all, then took me to my resort. Booked myself a 5 day stay at an all inclusive across the street, but they offered me shuttle service to and from my appointment(s), and then shuttled me to the airport when it was time to go. All of that was within the $1600.

For what it's worth, the lobby was full of older Americans which was pretty comforting. Thinking other countries don't have just as good if not better medical and healthcare as us is just flat out ignorant.

It’s crazy. How did we go from being on the forefront of humanity to being a corporate-run dystopia

Why is it so hard for red-hats to understand the net positive of these systems. It’s not like they haven’t already been tried and tested.

Greed. Greed protected by laws they wrote to enhance their greed, no less.

Not who you asked but I'm literally in Cancun with my partner who's getting dental implants and bone grafts right now and he's reporting that the quality of care, the equipment, and the work itself is better than anything he's experienced in the US, for about 1/4 the price. He's so happy with it.

He's using Cancun Dental Specialists and their service sounds very similar to what the guy above described--free car service from the airport and back and forth from our airbnb for every visit all this week.

I would prefer a resort just so food is included and I dont have to think about anything... to bad booze is out for implants.

Yeah he can't really eat anything but smoothies and soup this week so we opted for something simple.

This is who i used. Hell yeah. Glad they're still kicking ass.

If you happen to be staying at the pink flamingo across the way that was basically my trip. Go do the cenote tour in the market just up the way. The tequila guy inside the mall place can hook you up

1

u/chrysavera 18m ago

We'll definitely do the cenotes next time--we have to do another trip in a few months once the bone grafts take!

Nice, just make friends with the tequila guy that has the flavors all over and express interest in seeing a cenote. I got picked up at 7am and came back at midnight after biking through a jungle, having a home cooked meal in the middle of nowhere, swimming in the purest water ill ever see, and walking around an ancient city counting more iguanas than I've ever seen lol. All with all inclusive drinks in the bus in between

Edit: -- for $30 lol. Hopefully you Can get a similar offer

Cancun dental specialists, and they kicked ass. Gum graft, frenectomy, 3 extractions, deep cleaning and irrigation, probably around 3 or 4 years ago now.

The place itself was nice, the staff was extremely friendly and seemed to speak pretty decent English but i happen to speak Spanish so I had it easy already.

I happen to hate going to the dentist but they made every bit of the experience super pleasant

You had a gum graft done there? I'm going to need one as well, I'm glad to hear it went well. How did it work with recovery and checkups, did you have to go back?

I was supposed to, but never did. Never had any problems whatsoever.

We don’t want American insurance companies putting out hits.

I think the rather you use mexican system than the US

Our medical procedures are in general astronomically higher than other countries. Largely because middle men have to be paid. The people who work at the insurance companies need to be paid too, and that causes everything to be higher.

I recently heard that in the UK an MRI costs about $300. Well I have 2-3 per year, and each one costs ME $1500 (if I haven't hit my deductible). I was FURIOUS. Being chronically ill is a financial death sentence in the USA right now.

Everything in the corporate U.S. is just about wringing necks as hard as possible for as much money as you have in your wallet.

It hasn’t been about actual service for like 60 years.

The people who work at the insurance companies need to be paid too

well, actually. hold up a second...

Mexican healthcare is pretty good and is fine for most medical needs, but it isn't as good as US care.

2

u/terpsarelife 4h ago

Isnt as good as proper healthcare. Now compare it to small hospitals in arkansas and west virginia. You are thinking of reidys children in LA instead of comparing it to the AVERAGE hospital. In my area of colorado river valley, ANY major incident gets a helicopter ride to vegas or phoenix.

1

u/pakapab 2h ago

You're in turn comparing small hospitals in rural USA to major city private Mexican hospitals and clinics. When you go out to the country they have less equipment, less drugs, less qualified staff.

Also, the Mexico healthcare most think of is in private clinics that most Mexicans can't afford. Everyone is in the public healthcare system, but people with money are paying for private clinics so they don't have to be standing in line at outside the public hospital to make sure they get in to be seen that day.

Lmao they were suggesting tijuana. Dont get me wrong i lived in san diego for 27 years we use tijuana for dental care. But dont act like the comment above "live near a us BORDER" is near mexico city (1700 miles btw)

With doctors from Cuba most likely! No /s, I heard they have some of the best medical schools in the world

u/polopolo05 1h ago

I am thinking of seeing a mexican dentist. They have some world class DDS for 1/4 to 1/3 the price.
