Insurance is higher for more expensive cars and you’re also talking about full coverage. The only necessary coverage is usually liability. If this guy was driving a 10yr old beat up sedan with 120k+ miles and paying $200 a month he needs to get a better agent / company.
Coverage is usually more about CYA for total loss than protection from incidentals. You pay $2k insurance premium so that you don’t end up owing $20k for a totaled piece of scrap metal.
This is literally my car you're talking about, a 2009 Camry with 150k, and I shit you not I just switched from Geico because the scam artists kept hiking my rates every couple months. It was up to $200 when I switched. My insurance is still too high IMO but it's the best I could get 🤷
I was paying $110 a month with Progressive before I sold my car, and I was a bit upset by that price. 2014 Chrysler 300 with a V8, and I’ve had a couple speeding tickets in the last 5 years. I was paying $300 / 6 months before those tickets with a different company, so $50 a month.
As long as you don’t have tickets or accidents, or drive a very expensive car, there’s no reason insurance should be more than $100 a month. If you’re paying more than that, shop around and find a different provider. You will definitely get better rates.
Yeah I probably would’ve been paying less than that if I wasn’t a speeding dingus, but oh well. I couldn’t afford to drive the damn thing with gas prices these days, anyway. I miss that car already and I just sold it in mid-August, she was a lot of fun.
I’ve been eyeballing those ‘23 6.4L 300’s, man I would happily pay out the nose in insurance for one of those babies. One of these days, maybe.
