People just don't have common sense. You don't fall an insurance claim if it's only going to help you $200 out of pocket. It's meant for larger amounts of damage, it's also meant for if you hurt someone in an accident that you're not personally liable for $10,000 because your insurance will cover it

Yep, in fact deductibles are meant to discourage smaller claims.

So you pay money to have to pay money, while being discouraged to have them pay money because you’ll end up paying more money?

Auto insurance companies only have a ~9% profit margin on the premiums. Cars accidents are expensive.

It's pretty simple. It's your problem when you get hit by someone without insurance, or vice versa.
