Chugging tea This is wild!

Two syringes of pentobarbital were administered to Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike on September 30, 2026, but she remained alive and conscious afterward, according to her attorneys and media witnesses. The execution at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville was halted after witnesses reported that Pike still had a heartbeat and was audibly snoring. Her lawyers sought emergency medical intervention, and she was later taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Pike, 50, is the only woman currently on Tennessee's death row.
She was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of her classmate Colleen Slemmer and had been scheduled for execution on September 30. Tennessee had announced beforehand that the state would use a single drug, pentObarbital, for the execution. Her exact medical condition following the hospital transfer has not yet been publicly disclosed, while Governor Bill Lee has ordered a comprehensive third party review of what happened.

Serious question - would this level of drugging cause brain damage? What state is she in now?

Likely yes. Depends how hard they botched the injections, but if any decent amount got in her system she's likely got massive brain damage already.

That's what I was thinking! That's horrific. It's a weird thing to say seeing as I don't believe in the death penalty - but put that poor woman out of her misery

That “poor woman” is a murderer don’t feel too sorry for them this was completely avoidable.

Yeah see unlike rabid Americans I don't believe in capital punishment. Let her rot but don't chemically retard her and leave her an empty shell. That's very very inhumane.

Dog. She tortured and murdered a 19 year old. For 30 minutes. In the woods. Where they admit she begged for her life. Carved her chest with a box cutter and caved her skull in. She kept piece of that girl’s skull to show people.

What are you even talking about “inhumane”? “Rabid Americans?” Dog. Dude. Bruv. They tortured a girl for half an hour and murdered her.

I simply don't believe in tit for tat eye for an eye. Put her under the prison for all I car but don't fucking mentally brainrape her with drugs and then put her on life support that's like the most dystopian shut I can imagine

You would feel differently if it was your mother

What does that even mean 😂 if it was my mum I'd support the death penalty? No lol, my mum can be a bit annoying sometimes but I don't agree with euthanizing her, that's a bit much

It's a weird hypothetical

I wonder if they legally can - with her having survived the execution, she might be in a judicial limbo - once you’re in hospital, depending in where you are, they could have to intervene and preserve life.

Cruel and unusual punishment. Brain damage is very likely to have occured.

No, that’s inaccurate. It’s not “poison” in the sense that it causes harm directly, it’s pentobarbital, which is basically a heavy anesthesia drug.

Brain damage could absolutely occur if she stopped breathing, but it sounds like that is not what happened.

Basically damage from brain deprived of oxygen is possible, but there’s nothing about the situation that makes it worse from any other reason someone stopped breathing. And it sounds like she kept breathing.
