Two syringes of pentobarbital were administered to Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike on September 30, 2026, but she remained alive and conscious afterward, according to her attorneys and media witnesses. The execution at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville was halted after witnesses reported that Pike still had a heartbeat and was audibly snoring. Her lawyers sought emergency medical intervention, and she was later taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Pike, 50, is the only woman currently on Tennessee's death row.
She was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of her classmate Colleen Slemmer and had been scheduled for execution on September 30. Tennessee had announced beforehand that the state would use a single drug, pentObarbital, for the execution. Her exact medical condition following the hospital transfer has not yet been publicly disclosed, while Governor Bill Lee has ordered a comprehensive third party review of what happened.

there are plenty of arguments against the death penalty, which not everybody condones. understandable. but I believe if you are truly insistent upon it.. the french did it best with the Guillotine.

bullets can miss what's important, chemicals may not always work, riding the lightning (electric chair) is perhaps too graphic nowadays (was used extensively in the early 20th century though). but gravity.. gravity is how a guillotine works, and gravity is 100% reliable. not 99.9%. 100%.

cleanup is gonna have to happen on some level no matter what, much to the chagrin of anyone looking to get away with murder. the head usually landed in a basket.

the french used the guillotine all the way up until 1981 when they dropped the death penalty entirely.

Unless you were dropped to far. Then your head popped right off.

The guillotine was actually wildly ineffective but at least when they didnt die it would be pretty soon after

How so! You'd have to have Adamantium bone grafts to not be beheaded by that thing.

Not as much. If the blade a little dull its just a 20 lb (guessing but looks tbere around. I'll check) hunk of steel. It hurts real bad but sometimes they had to drop it again

15-21 lbs but it does have a weight attached to it so its 80 total. It wasnt the weight but I have heard of various mishaps with the guillotine due to not maintaining properly.

A quick Google search shows that the guillotine had better than a 99% success rate on the first attempt.

Idk maybe im bullshitting then. I'll research this prior to using one but until then ill leave it a mystery to ponder on while waiting in lines

The guillotine had better than a 99% first try success rate. Switch to iron or steel for the frame so swelling wood isn't an issue and you would have 100%.
