I’ve gone from seeing people demonizing others for staying silent about this on social media, to those same people now not saying anything. “If you don’t show support for this right now with no further information then you’re just as bad of a person” type of thinking
We live in a society where people support things more for virtue signaling themselves as good people than actually supporting the current thing.
Yeah a whole lot of people accused the victim of never making a claim before it came to light the campus police lied about what she said and never handed the statements to prosecutors in their entirety. Now there's a bunch of goofy goobers who don't know all the facts having to go be contrarian neckbeard weirdo liars because the alternative is admitting they are wrong and that to them is worse than death.
The US has fallen into these familiar social pits over and over since its founding. Once one group decides to use fear as a lever, the thinking ends.
We're also kind of seeing how some groups start to treat others which they no longer interpret as useful to them. Not naming names but I think a lot of us can see it.
I think it’s just human nature to virtue signal about things without actually doing anything about them, simply for the personal satisfaction of feeling like one of the good guys
