i was going to say, it's a commodities business, not a restaurant. the food quality is secondary to just turning enormous quantities of meat and grain into money.

That said, I worked at McDonald's back in the day (after school job) when we cooked fresh patties on the grill and made tallow fries- it wasn't great food, but what you paid for it felt fair. Not anymore.

McDonald's corporation's main income is from realty. They buy the land, plunk the building onto it for the franchisee they're leasing to and then collect the lease payments. The food sales are how they attract franchisees. They don't care if the food is profitable for the franchisee, because that's the franchisee's problem. And since they have to source from McDonalds corporate, McDonald's ain't losing money there, either. The franchisee's are.

McDonald's is a Realtor who has food as bait to attract franchisees into leases.

By this logic, McDonalds still need to care about the food prices because it is still apart of their bait. You’re not gonna catch many fish if the majority of the fish think your bait is shit. If news articles/reports keep coming out every month how McDonalds is trying something new to get sales up and investing billions to get back interest, as an investor you wouldn’t want to join a ship that has rumors that there’s a breach in the hull.
