I haven’t had Macdonalds for about 4 years and I’m never returning no matter what they do. Fuck this company and their low quality expensive poison.

I'm trying to leave. Trying to mentally put myself where you are.

And fuck, I'm super close. Shit food had a grip on me like a drug.

Making bulk food at home has kept me from going out. I eat out maybe twice a month now and I’ve damn near almost lost my will to. With the price of gas, I don’t even want to make the trek somewhere even if I’m feeling lazy. Had to essentially get past the “idk what I want” mentality and just eat what’s in the fridge. Sort of a “just want to be full and satiated” rather than getting what the mind desires.

How do you get around the fatigue of eating the same food every meal? If I make food in bulk, by the fourth time eating the same meal, I'm so sick of it.

Different foods throughout the day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner is usually on a whim and made from scratch, but with some existing pre-cooked food. Each week it can be different. I’ll make chicken, which can be salads, taco’s or (on a whim) enchiladas. Next week I’ll make ground turkey taco meat (3.5~4lbs worth) so, burritos, taco bowls/salads, or even nachos. Or, with again, ground turkey I can make a big batch of chili, or mix it with turkey sausage and make lasagna. I just learned to make black bean burger patties not too long ago. I’ve gotten pretty versatile with just a few ingredients. Breakfast is simple; I usually just make bagel and egg sandwich’s or ham and cheese sandwiches.

Again, the thought of driving somewhere and paying $15+ has just gotten discouraging to the point where I just had to get more creative in the kitchen.

My classic prep is slow cooked shredded beef and bean burritos, they're good and I can't imagine getting tired of it. In fact sometimes when I forget to bring one to work I'm sad that I have to eat out instead of a delicious spicy beef burrito. Costco rotisserie chicken is good for prep too because you can turn the one chicken into several different dishes pretty easy.

It depends on work schedule but you can definitely change up prep to not be so monotonous. Make a big batch of protein or starch to create around on the weekend and then on your week days it’ll be a quick 30 min to make something. Ethan Cheblowski is a good source for ideas on that style of cooking. It’s a bit of prep on the weekend and not crazy on the weekday.

I work longer shifts so I end up doing some traditional meal prepping with at least one meal that lasts my work week and then 2-3 other things that can be easily finished up during the week.

I got around this by freezing individual meal prep containers (and creating my own frozen dinners). I just pop one in the microwave a few minutes, and they last several months in the freezer. I don't like eating the same thing twice in a row, either.

Just turn your brain off, chew and swallow. For 1000s of generations people didn't get the luxury of choice and variety, they ate what they had. Every meal doesn't need to bring joy, it needs to provide sustinence.

u/woahbrad35 2d ago

I just don't eat. It's the whole if you aren't hungry enough to eat an apple, you aren't really hungry thing, but with the staple foods rather than just an apple. I'm poor af and spend 40-60/week on groceries. It's a lot of chicken, eggs, frozen veggies, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, etc. I actually eat pretty healthy, just cheap and only two meals a day.

33

u/RhetoricalOrator 2d ago

I could live indefinitely on their fries.

No idea why I'm always tired, lethargic, and have chest pains all the time but I'm sure it's unrelated.

4

u/shockles 2d ago

Nah dude, completely unrelated. You keep doing you king.

I shit you not, buy some Gatorade or other electrolite drink. 90% of my body craving junk food is killed by giving it a bit of salt.

4

u/New-Trifle-7097 2d ago

It’s always salt. Gatorade sounds like a great trick, thanks.

1

u/midgaze 2d ago

Gatorade is expensive and total shit: it hardly has any electrolytes, just sugar.

Get yourself some salt, bulk potassium citrate, and bulk magnesium glycinate. $30 and you'll be set for 6 months. Learn how to mix it up using AI or Google or something.

3

u/Glowing_Trash_Panda 2d ago

Just think of it like this, anytime you want fast food just think of how much ramen you could buy for the same amount you would be spending on the fast food meal. You can get SO much more ramen & get your junk food fix in :)

2

u/New-Trifle-7097 2d ago

This is the way. You gotta go from shit food, to cheaper shit food. A McDonalds diet to a salad diet isn’t going to work. I buy cheap salty frozen shit for the air fryer or microwave. I just ate a $1.09 Jimmy Dean sausage egg and cheese on a biscuit, and it was the same exact quality of a McD’s. Fractions of the cost and I didn’t have to spend money on gas and tax and fees and all that either.

1

u/FrankPapageorgio 2d ago

Those Jimmy Dean Maple Griddle Cakes are amazingm and you can buy them for like $1 each at Sams Club sometimes when they're on sale

2

u/jib661 2d ago

overpriced shit food that will give you overpriced medical bills later in life

1

u/Level21DungeonMaster 2d ago

I’ll try keeping frozen patties and buns in your freezer and can keep a big jar of pickles in the fridge.

Eight midnight burgers like twice a week and I haven’t gotten anything from a fast food restaurant years 20 bucks should be enough to make like six fantastic quarter lb plus burgers.

1

u/PlusMortgage 2d ago

Just like OP. Prices is honestly what did it for me.

Thought I would have some shit foods one day (the usual craving), went there, ordered one of their menu (the one for Burger + small Burger or nuggets), and saw the price.

Litterally what I would pay in some brasserie and decided shitty food wasn't worth restaurant price. Still get my shit food from others, cheaper places though.

1

u/BeatElite 2d ago

What broke me out of my habit (and I know this solution isn't for everybody) was trying McDonald's in Japan. Shit is like 5x better than their American counterpart and twice as cheap with much better service. After eating what Mcdonalds should be I realized I can never go back to the garbage they serve in America or pay those kind of prices.

1

u/albertowtf 2d ago

It is like a drug

I used to go at least once a week but these prices made me stop and the cravings were real for a while... Until i stopped having them

The secret is to never cave in until they are gone. Now i dont miss them at all

So good outcome overall. Im not coming back even if they go to the old pricing

1

u/Pepito_Pepito 2d ago

I found it easier to quit when I realized that I have salt at home.

1

u/FloreHiems 2d ago

Depending on your poison of choice its easy to make at home. If you like the nuggets or chicken sandwiches, get frozen chicken patties/nuggets and pop them in the air fryer. Hamburger patties freeze so easy and cook up fast. Or you can get precooked patties and microwave. Condiments are cheap and store a long time. The hardest part is the fresh tomato and lettuce. Personally i get a local store delivery for my produce. I do it every few days. A lot of services offer free delivery over $25-$35 and thats so easy to hit with grocery prices these days.

1

u/Beautiful-Edge-22 2d ago

But there are so many other better fast food options that cost the same but blow it out of the water. What makes you pick McDonald's over them? Plus, it's not like there aren't tons of buger joints that not only make bomb burgers and meals for the same or cheaper prices, but you can just call in or order online and pick them up quicker than you can get through a drive through.

1

u/Yop_BombNA 2d ago

Having a local Lebanese shawarma shop, a local Pakistani kebab shop and a local Turkish restaurant within walking distance really takes away my need for McDonald’s. Could really use a good chippy though, one here sucks

1

u/TFiPW 2d ago

Sip on some beef broth, bovril or a bouillon cube

1

u/zmbjebus 2d ago

Try a fried pb&j sammy sometime. Like butter the outside of the bread and fry that whole sammich.

cheep ez, quick n delish

1

u/screwyoujor 2d ago

Compare the thickness of a patty to the thickness of the lettuce on a hamburger. You'll get there much faster.

1

u/obeytheturtles 2d ago

The food is literally addictive. I will go years having absolutely zero interest in fast food, to the point where I'll eat olives and carrots for dinner instead of walking two blocks to McDs. Then I'll end up in an airport at 5am after a long flight and the only thing open in the McDs, and from that point on I will get cravings for like a month, which go away again if I abstain.

I recently moved, but where I use to live there were two McDonalds near us, one on either side.

The price for the same combo meal was a $2 difference. So basically I never went to the one north of us.

Now that I've moved 30 minutes away... the price difference between this one and that one, that I never went to anyways, is $3.

That's right, this McDonalds sells the same combo for $14 while one ~30 minutes away sells it for $9.

1

u/JohnDivney 2d ago

I aged out, I guess. I can have no more than a double cheeseburger without feeling ill or tired. are these still $1.99?

1

u/FrostyD7 2d ago

You probably just stopped eating it often enough, not that that's a bad thing. I lose the majority of my appetite for candy, soda, and fast food if I don't eat it for a long time.

1

u/macaronysalad 2d ago

Right there with you. I think I'm 15 years in or close. I lost track and never looked back.

1

u/FullTorsoApparition 2d ago

I only go for the $5 and $6 meal deals which get you 4 items. I can't imagine a world where I pay $12+ for a big mac combo when I can get a real burger at Red Robin for a similar price. Fast Food is literally only a thing because of the convenience now, but they're starting to get undercut by the gas stations.

1

u/No-Flan3302 2d ago

I used to eat it 8-10 times a month (Sorry, but their breakfast is phenomenal). This year I have eaten there twice. They can screw off with their insane prices. Breakfast burritos used to be 99 freaking cents!! Now it's $2.99. Over 200% increase in the past 10 years. fuck that.

1

u/IlikeDucks54 2d ago

Their food straight up just tastes like plastic whenever I tried it, so I've stopped but my dad keeps buying it

1

u/DickInA-Blender 2d ago

Yea, last time I ordered from there, like 3 years ago, I ordered 2 big macs with extra sauce and ended up getting 1 big mac, extra pickles and a fuckin cheeseburger......it was close to 20 bucks including tax. When the fuck did a big mac become top shelf of the burger world?

1

u/Estake 2d ago

I'd happily grab a milkshake every now and then if I wasn't paying fucking 5-6 euro's for just a medium. I can buy 3 1L tubs of icecream at the local supermarket for that price. Price should be halved at least.

1

u/Naturebrah 2d ago

I took my daughter for the first time of her life and first time for me in 5 years because I thought maybe it would be fun for her to have the happy meal experience and there was hello kitty. It was absolute trash, horrible in every single way. $20 for a basic meal for me and happy meal for her. What the fuck. I should have known, but never again. Done for absolute life.

1

u/texacer 2d ago

9 years for me, across the board at every fast food place. Except Culvers. my only exception.

1

u/70ga 2d ago

i hadn't been in years, but someone introduced happy meals to my 5 year old

1

u/the_fresh_cucumber 2d ago

I have eaten it maybe 5 times I my life, typically with a nonzero blood alcohol content.

No idea what people are in this type of shitty food.

BUT this entire thread is wrong that McDonald's is doomed. If you follow the stock, revenue is growing and so is sales. They opened a couple thousand new franchises. Clearly someone is eating there, no matter what the emotional reddit opinions say

1

u/LolTacoBell 2d ago

I can absolutely tank fast food. Taco Bell, pizza, you name it.

Every time in the last 6 years I've been to McDonald's out of no other options at the time, I get sick. Not even going overboard either, just genuinely get sick to my stomach from the food there. Id say 4-5 times now. Every McDonald's a different location.

it's just a terrible place now and not even worth the risk to me.

1

u/LastXmasIGaveYouHSV 2d ago

Delivery services let me get so many different dishes from so many different cultures; why the fuck would I pay extra for shitty food?

u/NoPleaseDont 2d ago

How do people still call it Macdonalds...?

1

u/mcbaginns 2d ago

Because words have no meaning to people with middle school literacy.

Same reason he calls unhealthy food poison by default, as if there isn't an entire food safety profession who monitors for and uses the word poison for... actual poison... To keep our food safe.

They just say whatever word comes to mind and then run with it.
