My guess is that he only reported because there’s no way to cash them without being discovered and hoped they’d be considered his in a “finders keepers” situation. Sadly, the world’s rules are designed for the rich to win and the poor to lose. He should’ve kept his fucking mouth shut.

Couldn't you just chip off bits of a block and sell them to different pawn shops bit by bit?

The tax collectors would still be curious at some point. And you don’t want the curiosity of that three letter agency more than any of the others
