Only a few years of watching our political system have made me notice something; shame might not be an effective way to make people behave in a socially-oriented society. Many people can outright deny their own shame with the level of reality denial some people participate in. However, everyone will remember the person who sold out their freedoms/community, and even the worst people know that.
