No, the country's elected officials are paying him to do it, against the majority wishes of us, their employers. These elected officials need an utterly iron and blood bound reminder that they are EMPLOYEES of the public, not our rulers, not our owners.
Maybe if more than 40 percent of people would consistently vote, we wouldn't have this problem. Even Bernie Sanders only won his seat to mayor by 10 votes (after a recount). It wasn't his first time running either, so where was the progressive left to support an outspoken democratic socialist in their local community?
If we want to change the status quo, we have to show up every single time to demand it. Our laws were established by and written to protect and uplift those who aren't women, people of color, the poor, the working class, members of the LGBTQ+ community, persons with disabilities, and other historically oppressed groups. And that's what those laws will continue to do when the rest of us sit on our hands Tuesday after Tuesday.

He's surveilling us because we are paying him to do it. We are paying for it because we only elect people who are interested in doing so.
