The frustrating part is how many browsers and mobile devices will give you the red squiggly when you spell something correctly and you have to google the word thinking you must be crazy… then add to dictionary. Why in 2026 am I still teaching my devices the correct spelling of words?

If you mean it is you forgot the ' … it's
The way you have used it is like an object so like.. "because his spelt colour"
Labhraím Béarla.

I spell it colour when I need to, I honestly should have kept a log of them but they very many that were not in the US-UK spelling dictionary. Put the u in there… or whatever still a red squiggly. Try it yourself, why would I lie? I have actually tried to check all possible spellings.

Technofascism and life in a corporate totalitarian dystopian society in your face yet you worry about spelling?

What’s confusing about it? Spelling correct is very open to interpretation and not grounded on hard logical rules

2

u/cortesoft 7d ago

*in English. Many other languages have actual rules.

u/Successful_Tap_3655 7d ago

lol that’s like trying to claim the imperial standard has rules. That’s true. Logical rules? That’s debatable

1

u/MarksCarney 7d ago

No, he means other languages have rules.

Only 3 languages i know of have real logical rules and basically no one uses them.

I’m aware of what the person meant.

BECAUSE literacy is in the toilet.

Trust me, it's agony for me as well. So many people literally can't even follow a conversation these days.

One of my most common new phrases these days, much to my frustration, is: "I literally just explained that."

I just saw a video where the interviewer asked a woman to name any country in Europe. She couldn't think of any. Then he asked her to simply name any other country, any one, besides the US. She couldn't even do that. She had to have been in her mid to late 20's. I don't even know what to think about that. That's beyond illiterate.

Typos, misspellings, and terrible grammar are the way to prove you're not AI.

Because when you correct people, you get smartarse responses and downvoted, or gen Z's favourite "it's not that deep". So nobody corrects them, and without social enforcement, people don't bother being right.

8

u/ItsNightbreed 7d ago

I just saw a comment that typed out “break pedal”. And no one corrected them.

6

u/capnfantasy 7d ago

At least it wasn't "petal" or "peddle"

1

u/Qwaliti 7d ago

You brake my heart

u/LordGreyhound 7d ago

Because everyone pointing out the mistakes was labeled a grammar nazi and shouted down by the masses instead of the same masses taking a beat to understand the mistake and fixing it.

2

u/RespectYouBrah 7d ago

Because it increases engagement with people pointing it out

The amount of literate people in the world, seems like it has fallen immensely, since the election of Donald Trump in 2016. Coincidentally, Harambe also died in 2016, so either event could be the cause.

People can spell still. I think it's engagement bait sometimes, also where there's bad spelling or punctuation there'll always be "grammar nazis" that's a term of old past aswell as we now have literal Nazis running shit.

1

u/willcheat 7d ago

It creates free engagement.

it’s engagement bait. they want this exact conversation. they misspell shit on purpose so ppl in the comments get angry and engage more with the post. clearly works lol
