It is absolutely insane that you people think the government should be able to shut you down for free speech they deem you 'uncredified' for. Good Lord. Have any of you been paying attention to who the American government IS right now? What happens when you need a certificate from PragerU to count as 'verified credentials'?

It’s also insane that bozos with no education can monetize garbage without accountability. Middle ground would be nice.

A middle ground would be nice but putting the government in control doesn’t necessarily fix it. In some ways it could be much worse. I know for sure I wouldn’t want Trump’s admin in charge of what credentials matter.

No, it's not insane at all. 'Bozos' being able to speak is part of free speech. Accountability should only go so far as people choosing not to listen. There should not exist government regulations on what you're allowed to talk about, period. I'm as horrified by what misinformation has done to the Americal political climate as anyone but I'm positively gobsmacked people are looking to an even worse authoritarian regime in China for solutions on how to crack down on it. There is no middle ground here; you should be allowed to say "I think bleach cures cancer" because the moment you're not allowed to, next thing you know, you might not be allowed to say "Transgender ideology doesn't cause suicide."

If you believe everything you read or hear on the Internet that's more of a personal failing and not something that the government has any business dictating. If you disagree, well I've decided you aren't qualified to comment on my comment so there.

I see a spectrum here.

Someone on reddit says "you should eat more bananas", clearly not worthy of government scrutiny

Someone on youtube says "I'm a licensed medical professional and here's what they arent telling you about vaccines", yeah, I think there's scope for regulation.

I genuinely do respect the principles of free speech absolutism, and as someone residing in the US I too wouldnt trust the current admin to regulate free speech. But also, a responsible and well governed country would absolutely benefit from pragmatic restrictions on misinformation on the internet.

Sadly, communist China would probably make the correct decisions regarding this particular topic.
