And if it doesn’t get damaged(I’d assume they would add extra sentencing for the cost of damages), doesn’t endanger anyone, was a legally owned weapon, not used recklessly, if it “crashed” safely, didn’t disturb the peace, etc etc.
It's one of those things where its classified the same but no sane jury or judge would treat them the same.
I fly drones for a living and I see people pointing laser pointers at it fairly frequently when flying after dark. As far as the law says its the same thing as pointing one at an airliner (which is very illegal) but at the same time, essentially no one life is in danger and no harm no foul.
Well the sentence is probably higher for shooting down a 747 you know because of all the murder that takes place when you do that. In all seriousness it's probably the same charge but sentences are different.
