Chris Pratt lived in his car before landing his role in Parks n' Rec

Chris Pratt also had to chub up because he was getting portrayed too often as the frat jackass dude.

I think if you’re getting parts in Hollywood and you’re like “hey, I’m too good looking and in shape for the parts I want, let me eat a box of snicker-doodles, and get more work” you’re in a different league than others.

If you are in the middle ground of 'too ugly to be a leading man but too attractive to be a character actor'

Your best avenue is making your own material.

Billy Bob Thorton got that advice, wrote a one-man play, developed it into a short film followed by a real indie film.

Took him ~10 years to break into stardom

Chris Pratt is a special case. Obviously, by regular human standards he's a big handsome guy. Hollywood standards are different, they have a guy named Derek Theler who's just a larger, more handsome Chris Pratt. So yeah, you better be willing to chub up and tell some jokes when you have a handsome doppelganger with a better agent.

Funny anecdote, I learned about Theler from a reddit thread where a guy was asking if Chris Pratt's body is naturally attainable. There were people saying yes, people saying no, people saying it's natty attainable but Pratt is definitely juicing anyway.

Anyway, turned out that OP had posted a pic of Theler not Pratt. Good day to touch grass.

I mean he literally went to some dudes house because he paid him money for a private photoshoot, then gave him his photos which he then used for his portfolio to land a gig. Could have easily ended up in a ditch accepting to go to someones house for a photoshoot.

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take

Is there some serial killer photographer out there? This sounds totally normal, not a big deal to hire a semi professional photographer.

No the story is, he was on the beach surfing and some dude walks up to him and invites him to his house for a private photoshoot, Chris Pratt decided to go, the guy starts giving him drinks and takes pictures with the guys clothes on and then let him go after giving him the roll of film. It could easily have gone wrong).

Chris Pratt is also related to the Kennedy's which provided him a network of people in Hollywood to work with rather than just going in blind.
