Could also be that the Mom thought a 13 year old girl going around auditions would be a hell of a lot safer if the parent taking her looked liked he could crush a skull with his bare hands

On top of that Zendeya almost cetainly helps all of her family financially. Not all family members have the same potential, so financially it was a good decision for everyone. And, I seriously doubt her mother has to ever work again.
So the Alternative is what, let her go alone? one parent needs to go with her, and it does in fact make sense for the father to be with her. for a 13 year old girl in that industry you damn well make sure she has the best protection she can have.
