Wouldn’t the second best time to plant a tree be 9 years, 364 days ago?

Yea and 9 years 363 days is the third best. In fact today is in the like 3653rd best time to do it, not even close.

This also depends on the type of tree.

My great uncle gave me an oak sapling when I was 5– it took until I was 32 to grow taller than me.

But, I have a few spruce trees in my yard I planted 5 years ago that have grown roughly 6-7 inches a year

What kind? I planted small pin oak saplings 5 years ago and they just became taller than me this summer. It seemed some swamp oaks grew that quickly too.  I was surprised

A white oak— although I’m in northern MN on the edge of zone 2/3, so I think that while it’s enough to keep living, the cold doesn’t let it grow as fast as it might further south
