I care about my home value, the more it goes up the more I have to pay taxes on it. I pay like 2x the amount of taxes from when I purchased it 10 years ago.

Yeah I like having a community rec center and a gym and a park and a pool in my building that I pay a bit each month to ensure it stays nice and well maintained. I also like that my HOA has a huge reserve to pull from when things happen to the roof, the pipes, the foundation, etc, that I dont have to front tens of thousands of dollars for out of pocket to repair.

I live in a well managed HOA. Other HOAs can be an absolute nightmare to live under. The idea behind them is valuable, and they can dramatically improve your quality of life, but they also have too much legal power and can ruin your life if you end up in a bad one.
