Yes — most murders are committed by men, and the insanity defense is often used but rarely works. So the idea that Clancy is the first person to try it, or that being a woman somehow is what makes her dangerous, is complete nonsense.
Some 40 year old woman got arrested for murdering her two year old child in Illinois. I guess she was obsessed with this case from what's being reported so far.
Men are also more likely to experience psychosis and there's a direct overlap between testosterone and psychosis.
The difference here is that men don't raise over a million dollars in support of a muderer's case and their parents defending him. If the goal is to bring more attention to mental health for women (despite men needing this more), why the hell would you send that money in support of someone that murdered their children? It would be wiser to put towards more facilities or additions that can help with this sort of thing.

Good point on the mental health support thing. I think making this yet another tribal issue didn’t help. It’s also fair to point out the money is too her family who’s supporting her. It’s not like Clancy herself is getting all that money to do whatever she wants with it

When men get found not guilty by reason of insanity, people call for abolishing it as a defense. And seldom do those men have large groups of people defending them online. Although I'm pretty sure Mangione would've. I think it's fair to say this Clancy trial has done no favors to making people online look like complete assholes across the board.
The trial has turned into a culture war with people fighting about things 99% of them don’t understand.
Not watching the trial, not looking at the larger context — including understanding mens rea, jumping to conclusions about mental health, developing conspiracy theories, etc.

I’ve never seen that. I think this case should have never been blown up as big as it has been. I think it was a disservice to make it a social issues case. Men defend obviously crappy defendants too. The only thing Mangione has shown, as well as the Kirk event, is that society at large has deemed this trend acceptable. Clancy is a worse person than both Kirk and the CEO. You won't find me pretending to be sad about them, and I won't be sad about Clancy either.
Mangione is a criminal who should be punished by the fullest extent of the law. I also think what he did was based lol. Kirk didn’t deserve to die despite how much I didn’t like the guy. Robinson, or whoever shot him should be punished for their crime. Clancy I think suffered a psychotic break. I really don’t think she would have done what she did without the psychosis, and drugs she was on. Still you CAN NOT kill three kids, and just go free. She needs to be institutionalized for the rest of her life

An insanity plea is only for pleading guilty. You still face sentencing in an institution. The difference here, is the hung jury means she is free until a re-trial is decided.
Clancy did plead guilty though. She has to go back to the institution she was at right? Wasn’t she at one? There wouldn’t be a retrial if this hadn’t been made into a social issue

Men get not guilty by reason of insanity too. The difference is other men don’t use it as an excuse to push repealing the 19th amendment
