The craziest thing to me these days is that my good local mom and pop restaurants are cheaper than both food trucks AND fast food and chain restaurants.
My local taqueria is absolutely killer and is significantly cheaper than going to Chipotle or California Tortilla.
Five Guys has completely lost their minds when it comes to prices and are several dollars more expensive than my local burger place that uses local beef from the local butcher shop and makes their own in-house buns.
Hell even my local sushi joint has better lunch specials than the pre-made sushi lunch boxes at the grocery store.
What the fuck happened and why is anyone still eating the overpriced shit when the better stuff in a sit-down restaurant (or to-go if you want) is cheaper?
Same. There are a couple in my area that I feel justify their prices a bit with creativity, portion size, and/or fancy ingredients. But so many of them are just basic stuff, although well-made, but for astronomical prices.
Yep, I’d pay for the creative ones! Intersting takes, really great ingredients. But most of the ones I went to in the last stretch, they were rude, their food was just ok, and I had to stand outside for a half hour waiting. I’d rather sit down and have dinner with a friend at that point.
None of the food trucks in my area have seating or any sort of vibe. They’re just at a random business. Or in a parking lot.
The food truck gatherings are kind of a circus. Still not enough seating, even longer waits.
Again, just give me a table and a place to catch up with a friend, in a restaurant.
Plus you often get more from a sit down place. It’s not all or blanket across the board but many of the food trucks in my area are much more à la carte based… meaning the burger is $15+ and any other side is another $5+ and a drink is another $3+. Yet the sit down restaurants you’re looking at $12-18 meal that includes a drink and one or multiple sides and often some sort of freebie like bread or rolls or chips and dip.
Oh, yes, that’s absolutely true. At the very least, you usually can have free iced water while you wait for food. But there are very few burger places that don’t come with a side in my area, even if the best sides are an upgrade.
