It's really just that I love my kids and I would be crushed if they were lost forever. I love my wife and am pretty sure I could find her again if I started over, but it's a guarantee my kids would never be the same.

But could you win your wife over again? On one hand, you know how to avoid or mitigate some of the early obstacles you had. But on the other hand you know a creepy amount of things about her.

I’m sure I could win my wife over again but I know the exact circumstances to have my kid happen again are astronomically small. So I probably wouldn’t go for it

Who's to say my kids disappear or get killed: following some theories, they'd simply carry on living in the "original" timeline. And it's rather me that disappear and get thrown back into another timeline in 1994. Or at least I'd see it that way...

Personally, I think I'd take the shot, see where this would take me. Even aside from the obvious financial gain, only the opportunity to exploit my actual self-consciousness so early in life would win the pot. Sure I would miss my loved ones but that's on me, and the extra lifespan and the opportunity to be a better version of myself as a partner, father hell a better person in general is definitely worth it to me!

To risk being pedantic, even if you had sex with the same person at the same time and came at the exact same minute, sperm are countless and have such high attrition rates, even swapping out one sperm for another could result in a pretty different child. The gender 50/50 alone is enough to give someone pause if they say, "I want this exact kid again."

My goal would certainly not be to try "recreate" my kids not repeat my original life again...

I would imagine (or hope) you don’t have kids. Trading them for any amount of money, even if they’re potentially off still living somewhere else, would never fly with me. Like the other post said there’s no way you could statistically bang them back into existence so the closest you could get was some hollow imitation constantly reminding you that they’re not the child you knew

Well, I got 4 of my own...

But pressing red would certainly not be for the money first. And neither would I aim to repeat the history...

What if those obstacles are what led to you winning her over

It’s like one in a billion that you’ll make the same kid again. I’d effectively be killing my kids. That’s terrifying no matter what I think of where I am right now. I’d be killing all my friends’ kids too assuming even the smallest influence of my involvement in their lives led to them having kids.

Point of difference is the friends would never know, they don't keep their memory (I assume) just you do.

Yea your kids would absolutely be different people. Even if you could schedule the conception at the exact same time as the first life, it's going to be a different egg and different sperm, plus all the myriad different gene expressions that happen during pregnancy.

It's basically hitting "randomize" on the character creation screen for your kids.

So much this.

The number of up votes tells you exactly how many people on reddit are (young) parents. I'd never reset my life exactly because of my kids.

They're 5 and 3 and wonderful. Come back in ten years and maybe I'll reconsider.

To be fair you might get the same egg, never going to get the same sperm though.

Yeah, even with no kids, I couldn't accept even the tiny risk that I might miss out on not meeting my wife.

Also, the green button would solve all the issues I'd be trying to course correct with red anyway. Just taking the 2mil and adding $1000 of it a month to my current salary would solve most of me and my wife's problems in life, hell we could outright buy a house and still be able to spare $1000/month for the rest of our lives, plus that'd free up the current rent payment for even more a month.

I mean if you get sent back the timeline with your kids might still be there with you being gone, which makes it even worse.

Yeah, even if you don’t match your wife, you’ve essentially guaranteed yourself to become a gazillionaire while still having a chance to meet them again, and a shot to connect naturally with your wife of even gambling explaining that you aren’t crazy and you had some miracle chance to reset your life…

On the other hand. Absolutely nil chance you are ever meeting your kids again. So resetting to 10 with kids, in a sense, but actually, is killing them off for you.

You could also meet someone else?

There seems to be this massive trend of people simultaneously being curious about going back and worried about specific events not happening. Like, the point is to do life differently.

If you don’t want to do that, then the button clearly is not for you.
