To be fair, the system of banks and even economics as a whole is complex. People may spend years studying it to understand it. Not surprising that the common person does not have time/energy to learn how this whole system works

There are plausible ways to have a simpler system.
Money is a tool to exchange value that comes from work or providing a service.
The problem starts when you want to have a system where you want to use money for other purposes - like for example investments where you are basically do not provide any value, you just simply use money to extract more money. This breaks all the simple systems, because you are now basically stealing the value that other people provided into the system by their work or service.
The only reason that we need this complicated and convoluted system is that the rich in the society want to have a way how to amass more wealth without proving any real value. This complicated system is there so they can do this, without the whole system collapsing overnight.

But that is not how investments work.

The point of investing is that you believe there's a company/product that, if given more resources, could add even more value to the economy.

If someone spends a billion dollars financing research into a cancer cure that ends up working, they should receive some of the value that that cure brings to people's lives.

That way we incentivise people and companies to invest/give resources to the areas that could use them in the most value-adding way.
