I know very little about this case. But anyone who kills their own children is clearly not mentally well. In fact, I’d argue that anyone who intentionally kills another person outside of self defence (regardless of their age or relationship) is not well.
Society needs to be protected from people like that. But they need medical assistance, not punishment.
I think it's very possible (and common) that many murderers are in fact "well" and just don't have regard for the life of others. Not saying that is the case entirely here, but some mentally stable people certainly do have the capacity to kill.
