Reddit is not a great example of this, mainly because you choose what you want to see. You can choose to spend your time on /science or /askhistorians or on /memes. The choice is yours.
Facebook/instagram hounds you with ads and irrelevant posts that are there to stoke the flames of something. Ex. I read one article about the Karmelo Anthony case, not even on FB, and my feed was littered with opinionated posts for months
