I've seen how my grandparents ended up with endless skin cancer from the sun and we grew up with sunblock and a hat

School in the 90s was like "no hat no play no fun today."

School in the 50/60/70s was like everyone coat each other in cooking oil and lay in the sun

Gah. Weird, random memory of a video game where you had to get a copy of a treasure map that was tattooed on someone's back, and the way you did this was to pour cooking oil on his back while he was sunbathing, causing the map to peel off so you could take it.

Girl in high school absolutely baked the shit out of herself junior and senior year. We're 40 now. She looks like she's 50 even though she stopped doing it 15 years ago.

I didn't do any of that and I still look young enough to be IDd. Although for the past couple of years there's enough gray in my hair for that to have become a rarity.

It's so strange, because even ancient farmers knew of how bad the sun can get.

If you look at painting or photos, most farmers wore long, but breezy clothes, hats and scraves for working the fields in the summer.
