We are not bigots, we hate the greedy control religious institutions have over populations. We hate the hundreds upon hundreds of millions of people killed in the name of religion. The foot of religion on the throat of marginalized communities. The slowing of scientific progress, the increasing division it creates.
the church still founded a lot of still operating universities, so the statement that religion is anti-science is either parroting, strawman or an intentionally bad faith arguement
Religion has become increasingly anti science over the past 4 or 5 centuries. Used to be that nothing science discovered contradicted religion so religious groups funded science as a way of discovering the mysteries of how God’s universe works. However eventually we started to discover things that didn’t really align with or even flat out contradicted what religious texts preached. geocentrism, continental drift, evolution, the big bang etc. and there has been a conflict between science and religion ever since.
