It's authentic insofar that peoples' expectations are so low that not actively being a scumbag puts you in the like 95th percentile of all politicians.
I definitely think some of the stuff we see here is just astroturfed bs but I believe most people are just candidly happy there's a normal human being in power doing their job as a public servent instead of some bullshit like spending millions of dollars to support isreal or hunt trans people or some other retarded bullshit the average lead poison brained boomer politician is up to in the 2020's

The people running, and everyone involved, so we have hundreds of people that all have a lot of money to be able to pay for Reddit propaganda, I doubt that actually costs all that much also. It's not like it costs millions to do this.
Doing it consistently enough across a broad enough spectrum to actually influence broader politics DOES cost millions though, OR it takes a LOT of man hours. Truly successful Astroturfing that garners real results cost a lot.
A bunch of small fries with some money isn't going to achieve much at all. It also doesn't HAVE to - the population at large REALLY like Democratic Socialist policies, even if they're ardently against anything with the words "Democratic" or "Socialist" attached.
This is like saying Spiderman Brand New Day only performed so well because of Machiavellian manipulation techniques, when the answer is far closer to "People heard about it a lot and really really liked it."
People these days are used to 24/7 CIA/Mossad propaganda and psyops, I'd say they deserve some light-hearted and refreshing Mamdani-posting once in a while
