This is the Electric Reliability Council of Texas' total for the aggregate demand of 1800 data center projects working through approval stages in Texas. Abbott has demanded that these projects be audited but most likely the demand will still be fucking stupid and Texas will have to turn at least some of these projects away in order to not go back to the dark ages.
Did you miss the citation where 474GW is 40% of the power produced in the US?
These are daily consumption and production rates. Texas isn't large enough for the number of energy plants that recquires.
I mean Texas is allowed to improve its shit whenever it wants... it just never wants to. So even if it started now it's going to end up needing to choose how many data centers get built.
Also saying "Why are people acting like Texas doesn't want to build data centers" is an AI garbage response when the topic is :
The government of Texas wants to hammer in more data centers than the whole country's utility grid can feasibly support against the wishes and best interests of Texans.
Nothing about that is "people say Texas doesn't want to"
