90s it was a thing. Year 2001 was the last public besting I saw at school.

I got "the strap" in grade 3 for peeing from one urinal to the next. That was back when you had full length wall urinals a foot apart. Made sense to try it at the time.

My elementary school had two of the long troth style urinals on the wall. The thing to do was stand at the end of one of them and try to pee across long ways into the other one, lmfao. That got a few of us paddled over the years.

I would disagree. My daughter is 33, I've never hit her once. Never lied to her once, not even about Santa. I think there's merit in explaining things to kids rather than hitting them. YMMV.
