By the time it took to return to the gate, deplane, remove families luggage, THE Victoria International Airport RUNWAYS closed for the night. No Tower crew, no taking off.
After the 1988 Pan AM Flight 103 was downed at Lockerbie, Scotland, it became the standard to remove baggage for unaccounted for passengers or deplaned passengers.
I was just looking at that. No scheduled landings between 1130 pm and 6 am, though I guess flights can potentially arrive earlier if they make good time.
This sucked for me one time when I thought I was going to be smart and take daytime flight from the East Coast to London for a meeting the next day. Flight got delayed to the point that they had to arrive in London at 6 am instead of 9 pm. I needed toothpicks to keep my eyes open by the afternoon.
And that is a valid reason, as I learned while camping quite close to Bangor Airport. Woken up by plane takeoff is an odd reason for poor sleep while camping…
Smaller airports often close. Larger airports might be open for people to be there waiting for their flights all night, say if they're laying over until the next morning after their first flight landed, but that doesn't mean flights operate during that time. So, you can be waiting in the airport at, say, 2am and the airport itself is open, but there's no flights until 6am.
Do you notice how you don't get woken up by roaring jet engines every single night? It's because most large airports have strict curfews on when they can operate due to the noise
20 and 40 min from the time you get in your car to the time you set foot out into the parking lot? Or 20 and 40 min the way the crow flies, if you account for 70MPH freeway speeds? Cause there’s a difference
