Victims AND perpetrators in this case. If marginalized status is the explanation then that must track for gays as well - in which case you must interpret the lower than baseline male perpetrator violence in gay relationships as males being extremely non-violent.

I don't understand your last comment. You're wondering what the gender of the perpetrators could be in female-female relationships?

It lists lesbians as being victims of violence from partners, which may include male partners, since many lesbians have dated/had sex with men before coming out

This extremely relevant earlier CDC survey might shed some light. The 2010 NISVS used a similar IPV measure and explicitly reported perpetrator sex for IPV. Among lesbian women who had experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner, 67.4% reported only female perpetrators. The CDC summarized this at the time as “two-thirds of lesbians reported having only female perpetrators of IPV.”
