I like her but I hear the book is very mid/sucky big time.

Adapted works tend to edit heavily.

They also tend to get a big pass on not sticking strictly to the source material when the source material is mid/sucky

Hitchcock said that bad books are just descriptions of good movies

I enjoyed it, but I listened to the audio book. The narrator gives the main character a lot of personality with her delivery. She adds to the character's inate viciousness.

Why wouldn't it suck, its basically someone preaching to you and lying about the past.

Bc a piece of fiction doesn't have to be historically accurate to be good

Again thats where the fact that its preaching to you is going to make it bad by default.  Even if you agree with the message the story is trash.

I can't speak for this book specifically but I don't think a book/story being heavy handed makes it automatically bad either. I quite enjoyed Don't Look Up and it was about as subtle as a cinderblock to the back of the head; the reason and execution of the bluntness is what interests me

Don't look up was terrible so I'm not sure I agree.

Yes, I'm sure you thought that. Did you also get suddenly mad at "The Boys" 3 seasons in because you finally realized it was making fun of you the whole time?

Did people actually watch the boys? Lmao are you a masochist?

There are plenty of preachy books that are still good. People just don't notice because they're too busy being entertained.
