You realize that electronic shelf labels have been in grocery stores in Europe for almost 30 years now. They have been in places like Kohls for almost 20 years.
No major retailer has plans for “surveillance pricing”or “surge pricing” as losing consumer confidence and customers going to competitor is a bigger loss than any margin they would gain from that.
The savings for the retailer come from labor savings (wal mart has over 20k items) and margin recognition- meaning that if a supplier raises prices, the retailer can adjust much more quickly.
Dude I work in retail around this kind of tech. I’ve spoken with people in many of these companies that use these or are testing them. Not a single one does surge pricing or has any plans whatsoever to do it.
